How do I make all pic files shorter so I can fit them into the length of a song.

You have 2 choices... change the default setting in the Tools > Options > Advanced Tab > Picture duration before you move them from the collection into the project.... as they cross into it is when they get assigned that duration.

Once they are in the project, you can use the timeline view to grab each by it's right trim handle and change its duration.... but you have to do them one at a time.

Redoing them all or one at a time is up to you... depends on how much work you already have in the project.

Another option (especially if a lot of stills/clips are invovled) is to do it in second pass with custom speed effect.

1. First calculate how much change do you want as factor = old_length/new_length.
2. Use this vlaue to make a new custom speed effect as follows repalcing 1.258 with your calculated 'factor':

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0" >
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}">
<Effect name="Speed: 1.258" iconid="32" speed="1.258"></Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Copy paste into notepad. save as C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\speed.xml. Restart WMM.

3. Open the created movie in new project and drag it to the timeline.
4. Apply the new Spped effect
5. Mute original clip's audio and redo the background song in music track.

Hope it helps.
