Eds TV (PNG overlay) (my first custom XML)
Posted: 04 Sep 2006 08:05 PM
Well this is my first post on this forum, but I’ve been reading them for quite some time and have been registered here too for some time. So I thought I'd try to make my own PNG overlay, because I needed it for a short movie I was making, which is now made, so I thought I'd share it here with you (the PNG overlay!) and see if you guys (and girls!) think its any good and if I could tweak it at all to make it better or remove un-needed code (which I don’t think there is any but I’m still starting off learning this code!)

What this PNG overlay is Eds TV from the TV show "Ed Edd n Eddy" (of which I’m a fan of, of course!), it is under "Title, One Line" and can be placed over any clip(s) and the clip(s) will be played inside the TV screen. You can also write some Text at the bottom of the TV screen if needed and this is a one line Title only. The Text also fades in and out at the beginning and end by 1 second. That’s about all I can say, so here is the code.

Installation for novices:
Download the ZIP file here and unzip it to...
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\
If that folder does not exist, the zip program will create it for you. (WinZip does, not sure about others yet, if anyone can tell me that would be great!) Then restart WMM and follow instructions at the bottom of this post to add it to your movies.

Installation for experts:
Save this picture to...
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\
as "eds_tv.png" If that folder doesn't exist, create it. Now open Notepad (not Word or WordPad) and paste this code into it (without the -------s)

-------------------------------------
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Eds TV" iconid="13" >
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Eds TV from Ed Edd n Eddys Boo Haw Haw."/>
<Param name="EntranceVideoRect" value="0.26875 0.2333 0.565625 0.5958333"/>
<Param name="MainVideoRect" value="0.26875 0.2333 0.565625 0.5958333"/>
<Param name="ExitVideoRect" value="0.26875 0.2333 0.565625 0.5958333"/>
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderFirst"/>
<Param name="LogoBitmapFilename" value="AddOnTFX/eds_tv.png"/>
<Param name="LogoRect" value="0.0 0.0 1 1"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderLast"/>
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="True"/>
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="Outline"/>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.165625 0.84 0.696875 0.141666"/>
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="32"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>
-------------------------------------

Now go to "File" > "Save as..." and save it as eds_tv.xml to...
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\
remember to include the .xml extension or it won't work! Restart WMM and follow the instruction's below to add it to your movies!

Adding it to your movie's:
Open WMM (if not already after being restarted) and click on the clip(s) that you want to be inside the TV. Now click on "Make Titles or Credits", and then "Add title on the selected clip in the timeline". Now click on "Change the title animation". Now look under "Titles, One Line" for "Eds TV". When found, click on it and click "Edit the Title Text". Now enter any text you want at the bottom of the TV (if not enter a space using the space bar), and then you can customise the text by clicking on "Change the text font and color". Once done there click "Done" and then on the timeline, stretch the Title you just made for as long as you want it on your movie, and the position too! That’s about it, the video/picture it is overlaying will be displayed it the TV!

So if anyone can try this out and test it that would be great! Thanks. If you want example's look below...

Examples:
Example Clip on Putfile
COMING SOON: Example Clip on Youtube

and if you want to see the movie this effect was used for, click the link below...

Thanks and I hope some of you enjoy this effect and reading my first post and thread!

Nice work Zoton2

I extended it so the video expands to full screen like the newspaper title.

Just an update here, looks like the really good host I was using decided to move to a different server, deleting ALL of my files and others, and turning into ust an image host. Great!

But I found a new host! So here and the new links, for anyone who still wants them...

Ed's TV - ZIP (inc. XML)
Ed's TV - PNG

Follow the same instructions as in the first post.

Thanks, Zoton2

OK thanks :)

Also, for the ZIP file, you now have to "Right-click > Save target as..." if when you click on it, all you get is loads of random text.

Thanks, Zoton2
