What effect/transition are we talking about?
That looks like something done in Halo(2) using
FRAPS. Are we talking about the narrow screen?

Sorry, I am still lost.
Having never played Halo, I am unsure what you
see and what you want to see.
I assume HUD is Heads Up Display(again,
sorry...don't speak the lingo)
So...you are running Windows version?
And you want it to look like the the XBOX
version?

thats the HUD, it has the life and crap like that. I want to cover that up in a video so it is just a black bar.

I would think your best best is to turn if off
in the game. I found mention of something
called blind mode(but that is beyond the scope
of this message board)
Anyway...a thick black boarder/bar along the
to off the screen is doable, if that is what you
are looking for?

ok...we can do this simple...in 10 minutes
The 1st cut will be imperfect, but you can
play/adjust from there.
First, go into Paint.
Make sure you have a white background.

Click on the rectangle tool (upper left of the
4 geometric shapes in toolbar on left)
Also select the bottom rectangle.That
makes black filled rectangles.
Drag a narrow rectangle at the top of
your screen...and a fat one at the bottom
(if you want to replicate your 1st image)
You should have a white screen with a black
top, and black bottom.
Save that as a PNG file, with a name you can
remember.
Import that into MM2...and use the
Chroma White transition to merge that
with your video clip.
Do you know how to transition a image
onto a video clip?
Do you have the white chroma key transition?
We can do that quick also.

Ok...no problem.
Shut down Movie Maker.
Open notepad
Cut and paste this text into the notepad
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{C5B19592-145E-11D3-9F04-006008039E37}" >
<Transition name="Chromawhite" iconid="11">
<Param name="KeyType" value="0" />
<Param name="RGB" value="0xFFFFFF" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Save as chroma.xml in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
You can add other chroma transitions to this XMl file later

Start Movie Maker
Import the PNG file(Import pictures)
Add you rvideo clip to the timeline
Add your PNG file to the timeline
Drag/expand the PNG file to make it as long or longer than the clip
go back to storyboard(easier to add transition here)
add the transition between clips
back to timeline
drag/pull the PNG file back fully over the top of the video clip
if the white and black image is all that shows, try using
the brightness increase effect to the image(makes white whiter)

Sorry ..probably wasn't clear enough.
Save it in the folder called Addontfx
so...
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
Save it as any name.xml you want...I suggested
chromawhite.xml

Hmmm...
I just cut and pasted it myself,
works like a champ...so since I am stumped,
let me ask a few dumb questions.
You shut down MM2...I assume you did
This is MM2......not MM
you are looking in transitions...not effects?
what other XML files are in your Addontfx directory?

sorry for annoying questions...but grasping at straws

ok, i got the transtion. But now when i move the picture file in to the video like you said, the picture it self shows up. So basicly, it just shows the bars and a white box in the middle.

Ok...make sure you have lengthened it...and drageed it left
so the 2 are completely overlayed.

And like I said...add the "Brightness - Increase" video effect
on the black and white image(not your video clip)
If nothing yet..add it twice...add it three times if
needed. If you didn't use a complete white(255,255,255)
brightness increase will force all 3 (red green blue)
up to 255.

Hi,
Glad you got it!
There is a way to get the .2 seconds. One extra step
before you combine your video clip and the B&W image.
Take any image(even the B&W image) and move it
to the timeline.
Add your video clip to the time line(after the image)
Now save that as a movie(DV-AVI).
Now import that movie, and use it as your video clip
to transition/combine with the B&W image.
That will allow you to get all of the original video clip,
and only lose .2 second of the trim clip at the start.
After you are all done...you have a little trimming to do,
beggining and end.
