Dreamy Overlay (PIP+ Effect)
Posted: 25 Jul 2006 09:03 PM
Note:
This thread has been superceded by my updated version of the dreamy look done as a title. There's a Custom Dreamy Look Title Overlay on my website with an installer. It also works on XP or Vista.

If you are looking to add that "dreamy" look to your video, try this effect. It creates foggy, cloudy edges overlaying your video to give a hazy, dreamy look to your video.

First you must first download and install Rehan's PIP+ Package (main plugin). The following effect is a static effect (no window resizing), so it will work even after the 15-day trial.

Next right-click on this transparent dreamy image and save it in:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
as dreamy.png (You'll have to rename it).

Then copy/paste the following code into Notepad (All Programs > Accessories > Notepad) and save it in:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
as dreamy.xml.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{0BEDE179-3361-4EEA-9058-11CBB1739D50}">
<Effect name="Dreamy Overlay (PIP+)" iconid="10">
<Param name="RectA" value=" 0.0, 0.0,0.0,1.0,1.0" />
<Param name="BorderA" value="C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\dreamy.png" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

When you restart Windows Movie Maker, you should have a new effect called 'Dreamy Overlay (PIP+) that you can apply like other video effects.

Tell me what you think...

Hi Blaine

I can see what you are trying to do but it doesn't seem to work for me - the effect doesn't seem to do anything?
Perhaps the png has been modified by imageshack or there's a typo in the XML?
Have you actually tried to download the image from imageshack?

btw there's a typo in your closing bold tag around "dreamy.png"
If you were using firefox plus my greasemonkey script it's a lot easier to make words bold - just select the text and press Bold

I fixed the closing bold tag. As for the image file, I just downloaded it and it was fine. You do have to rename it from the default name that imageshack assigns (dreamylr9.png --> dreamy.png).

Thanks Blaine

On closer inspection, all my PIP+ effects with borders are broken Crying
- perhaps one has an error and has caused the others not to load...

So I shut down my machine, left it for a few hours then fired it up again - lo and behold, it now works. Must have been a dream...Perplexed

Actually I suspect my PC was running low on resources

Anyway Blaine - it's a nice dreamy, hazy overlay - kind of reminds me of a few days in Shanghai last month when the smog obscured the view outside my hotel window.

Are you by any chance using multiple monitors?
Some of us have reported that PIP+ doesn't work with multiple monitors.
If so then try using a single monitor.
