Widescreen-problems
Posted: 10 Oct 2004 10:44 AM
Hi. My name is Andrew and I am new here

I have a problem with editing a widescreen-movie in WMM2. I captured a movie with my Panasonic NV-DS55 camera. I transfered it to WMM with FireWire-connection. And then I got a problem. Of course I started to set the ratio from 4:3 to 16:9, but when I started to edit, the WMM, putted on extra black stripes over and under the picture, in addition to the stripes who already was there. What can I do to fix this? I really want to make this movie in widescreen. Thank you for helping me, and excuse my really bad english, but I live in Norway (wicht is not a very english country, if you see what I mean).

if the movie had black borders on tpo and bottom already then it is not the standard widescreen but a letterbox style widescreen movie: a widescreen frame within the 4:3 frame.

You can apply a static zoom effect to the movie to correct it. Such a custom effect can be made using standard custom effects classes or my pan zoom effects. Let me know if you need help with the xml.

1. Download and install my pan zoom effects.
2. Try the new effects in movie maker to make sure these are working
3. Copy paste the following lines into notepad and save as rpzwide.xml in
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared\AddOnTFX folder

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{4B4670E6-4512-4bec-BED1-57A017078ECC}">
<Effect name="RFX Zoom Hold E" iconid="33">
<Param name="X1" value="0.125" />
<Param name="Y1" value="0.125" />
<Param name="Size1" value="0.75" />
<Param name="X2" value="0.125" />
<Param name="Y2" value="0.125" />
<Param name="Size2" value="0.75" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

4. Restart Movie maker and apply the new effect called "RFX Zoom Hold E" to a
photo in Storyboard you want to make fit into widescreen.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for helping me.
It works, but it wasn't what i had in mind. I have captured the movie in widescreen, and when I import this to Windows Movie Makers, it is filmed in Widescreen LB, but I want to make the picture twisted, that you strech the movie over and under. And so, I can change the settings in the meny to 16:9 and get a correct LB, not a double one. I hope you can understand this but my english is not exactly good, so here is a picture of what I really want to do.

Oh i see.

You want to stretch the widescreen movie frame so that it fills up a 4:3 frame ?

But I ask why? From your message it seems you want to do it so that when you play the final movie, it should come out to be 16:9 ? Well in that case just change to 16:9 mode from Tools->Options->Advanced, and you won't have to do anything we been talking about as it all will work automatically.

Yes, I want to strech the movie, but when I go in the menu as you described, I get double letterbox, because WWM2 thinks that my captured movie is 4:3, not 16:9, so when I set the settings to 16:9 I get leterbox, in addition to the letterbox who already exsists. So what I want to do is strech the movie, so I can get the letterbox who already excits disapear, and edit the movie with 16:9 settings from the menu. This was very complicated so I think I add some pictures.

This is how it is at this point:

When I turn on 16:9, it will be like this:

Sorry my english, and best reegards

OK I understand now...

However it cannot be done using a single effect. You need the following two effects. Apply the "Move up 12.5%" first and then the "Scale Y 133%". The end result should be the letter boxed region stretched to fit the 4:3 frame (so you should be using 4:3 mode).

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0" >
<Effects>

<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="Move up 12.5%" iconid="33">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="up" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.125" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>

<EffectDLL guid="{4ABF5A06-5568-4834-BEE3-327A6D95A685}">
<Effect name="Scale Y 133%" iconid="33">
<Param name="M11" value="1.0" />
<Param name="M22" value="1.3333" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>

</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Copy paste into notepad and save as removelb.xml in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared\AddOnTFX

Enjoy.
