Vertical split - with 2 sides showing different clips?
Posted: 08 Oct 2004 11:00 PM
Hello...I'm new here and went back and did my homework, searched through all 5 pages of this forum just in case this might have been asked before and didn't see anything that pertained to what I wanted to try and do so here goes...I have a question I guess pretaining to some experienced people in video editing....This is a example of what I want to do in Movie Maker 2 but it's showing it being done in Adobe Premiere 6.5:

http://www.marcpeters.co.uk/dallas-titles.html

I want to do a split screen (a vertical split) with one type of sequence on one side while at the same time having the other side play something else...Does anybody know if it is possible to do this in Movie Maker 2?

Yes, it is possible with Rehan's Split Video. Go to his site:
http://www.rehanfx.org/
click the Effects & Transitions link, then the Split Video link. He shows nice examples of what it will do. The vertical split examples are at the bottom. His download is free, but you'll need a utility to open the ZIP file. Make sure you read his instructions carefully as to installation and use. I think it will do what you want.

Seems to work like it's suppose to but I guess I'll have to mess around with the settings by editing it in notepad. It shows the clips but I want it to show more of to the left...You know, have to have it centered on both sides so the characters show in it...

For that you'll have to ask Rehan directly.....

To show the centers you need to apply a "Move Left" and "Move Right" effect to the clips on right and left of the split.

Here is the code for these:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="Move Left" iconid="33">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="left" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.33" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Move Right" iconid="33" >
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="right" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.33" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Copy paste into notepad and save as move.xml in the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared\AddOnTFX. Restart WMM.

Note that you have to apply Move Left to the clip on right, and Move Right to the clip on left. If you do the other way you will get strange result.

Enjoy.
