Is there any way to do a Split screen video..

I mean like video on one half and while that is showing like video onthe other half, kinda like dual mode in Playstation.

I do have XML for the two side-by-side videos. Check out the following picture.

Assuming this is what you want, I was able to use a modified version of my previously posted "Cube rotate" transition. I set the progress to 50% (0.5) so that you end up with two videos showing side-by-side, each squished into their respective rectangles.

Copy this code into Notepad, then save it in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX as sidebyside.xml. Restart Windows Movie Maker.

To use it:
1) Put your videoclip1 and videoclip2 on the timeline.
2) Drag the new "Side by Side" transition to the timeline between the two clips.
3) Drag videoclip2 to the left so it almost completely covers videoclip1. (You can't go all the way otherwise it moves clip2 in front of clip1.)

Note: this actually puts clip2 on the left and clip1 on the right. If you want them the other way, then put videoclip2 on the timeline first, followed by videoclip1. Sorry, it's a side-effect of the 'PUSH' transition which moves right.

that is very nice, well done.
Is there any way to get say clip one to be full screen, and clip 2 to be shown 25% of the size as clip 1 in the top right hand corner?
Also, would it be possible to re-size the clip 2 by changing a value in the xml coding, so it could be changeable to say 30%, etc?
Below is a link to my sample pic showing what i mean incase im not explaining it very well.

There is a way of doing that using pip+ but the rectangles are,smaller.. anyway this is the xml for it..

Copy this xml to notepad and save it as pipstatic.xml (the xml bit is important.) Save it in the AddOnTFX folderfound in this directory

C:// > program files > movie maker > shared > AddOnTFX

if you dont have the addon folder simply create it..

these are all the statics in the xml. look for Pip+static:B corner top right

Note, for the above to work you need to download the PIP+ package from Rehan's website (www.rehanfx.org).

Sorry forgot to answer the second question.yes it is possible just change
<Param name="Progress" value="0.5" /> if you want to change it to 30% you change it to "0.3" 40% will be "0.4" etc.

30% would look like this :-

Stephenson, your two posts above in this thread refer to two different things. Although both may be relevant on their own right.

I prefer just pointing to the website link to download PIP Plus and the additional package: "PipPlus Static PIP transitions". This would provide the full details and context of what is being downloaded.

OK, sorry for being a bit slow, but ive been distracted with work and other things.
Im back to creating my video, and i have now installed the PIP+ package that the extra little pack from rehans website, and tried the transition showing clip A filling the screen and clip b in the top right, but when i applied this it played one clip ghosted over the other clip.

I also tried copying this text into a new xml:

OK, ive got a problem again.
I got the PIP+ etc etc and started playing with the numbers and changed the following in the large page of code from pip+:

this is very close to what i want, but the clip A has a black border around it which reduces teh size of the video.
This would be ok normally, but in this circumstance it might not work so well, since i have a previous clip before this one in the timeline, and the clip A which has clip B over the top is longer in time than clip B, so i'm going to have to snip that into two at the correct timing, which leaves the second half of clip A at full screen while the first half with clip B over the top is reduced in size with a black border around.
Also, the clip B is inside the black border and takes up a little of clip A which looks quite nice, this might be the cause of the black border.

Any help will be appreciated.

I dont see a clear requirement in your post. You have described what happens but has not identified the problem exactly to be fixed. Can you elaborate what you want.

you provided an xml to get this effect side be side vertically. Do u happen to have one that does this horizontally?? Meaning something that squishes video 1 on top video 2...

If you have downloaded Rehan's PIP+ package and the PIP Statics package (www.rehanfx.org), you can add this into the ppstatics.xml file:

Hello Blaine,
I am wanting to do a split screen with the left side showing a voice narrator and the right a signing narrator.
I have copied the code and when I try to find where to save in my shared folder for movie maker I only have a folder called profiles and a doc named Empty.txt.In the folder Profiles there is only a doc named blank.txt.Can't see addontext.
Any help appreciated.

You have to create a new folder called AddOnTFX

um i tried this like 15 times and it dont work! can you please b more specific like after u save it...where in windows movie maker do u go 2 get the new trasition?

There are about 5 different transitions in this thread now... go back to the top of the thread and follow the steps exactly for the sidebyside transition...

It should appear in your Video Transitions folder, just like any other transition. This one is called 'Side By Side' and will appear there alphabetically. Drag it between your two clips and overlap the clips as much as possible.

Remember this is for Windows XP, so if you are on Windows Vista, this doesn't work.

its just the addon thing that i have a problem with like for it there is the code for it and it never works and i tried it again and it just not working 4 me.

2 make it clearer the add on tfx is the code from up there and it asks me if i want 2 replace that code with the 1 im trying 2 put there but the 1 im trying 2 put there is the code from up there! if u get what i mean cuz im also confused :p

Again, are you on Vista or XP... all the XML in blue is for *XP*. Also, the AddOnTFX *folder* needs to be manually created by you under C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared so if you haven't done that (using 'New Folder') then do that first.

OK THANKS I DIDNT KNOW I HAD 2 MAKE A NEW FOLDER BUT IT IS WORKING NOW AND I FOUND IN MOVIE MAKER AS SIDE BY SIDE...THANKS!

ok, I'm playing with side by side "static" means "not moving" right?????? most of my pip+ are moving from right to left???? all the same way? I'm guessing (doahhhh) i may have not gotten a good download of Rehan's pip+(which i registered) My goal is tow play 2 short videos next to each other for comparison. Any ideas???
