is there a way that you can make your own shape for the split transitions.

Thanks for any help.

PapaJohn has a 'transition maker' or you can use the wipe transition and make your own mask... What shape are you looking for?

I'm still not understanding (sorry)... maybe you could draw a picture and post it on putfile.com or imageshack.us? Quarter circles? One in each half?

If you read the information on SMPTE wipes, you can certainly create your own mask using a grayscale mask. If you want it static, freeze it at a certain point by setting Progress to a value.

I still need a picture to know exactly where you want the video. Is it a quarter circle centered in the top right with the rest of the video in the rectangle? And is the height of the circle equal to 1/2 the height, or the full height, or some other fraction?

You could do this with the standard circle mask and an OffsetX/Y, but those values are dependent on your resolution, so it might look fine in your preview but not good when rendered, or vice versa.

But I digress. First you need a Custom Circle Mask. Save that in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX as circlemask.png.

Next copy the following code into Notepad (not Wordpad) and save it in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX as circletrans.xml where the .xml extension is important.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{DE75D012-7A65-11D2-8CEA-00A0C9441E20}">
<Transition name="Wipe: Circle, Upper Right" iconid="28">
<Param name="MaskName" value="C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\circlemask.png" />
<Param name="BorderSoftness" value="3.0" />
</Transition>
<Transition name="SPLIT: Circle, Upper Right" iconid="81">
<Param name="MaskName" value="C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\circlemask.png" />
<Param name="BorderSoftness" value="3.0" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.33" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Restart Windows Movie maker and you should have a couple of transitions. One is a dynamic wipe called 'Wipe: Circle, Upper Right'. The other is called 'SPLIT: Circle, Upper Right' which is a static split.

If you put two clips on the timeline, put the SPLIT transition between them, and overlap them as much as possible, you'll get one video showing through the circle in the upper right.

Note: The SPLIT is exactly the same as the Wipe, but frozen at the 33% mark. If you want the circle smaller, make Progress smaller. If you want the circle bigger, make Progress bigger.
