Fade a ghosts and meet a ghost: a new trick using PIP+
Posted: 16 Apr 2006 05:55 PM
Here are 2 PIP+ effects(will work with free version I think)
I don't think this has been suggest before...my bad if it has.
And your lucky day...no demo, my actors are on strike.
With these 2 effects, you can create a ghost without using
a transition, and fade in/fade out a ghost on a single pass,
with no transition. Then, as the next logical step, you could
use this effect in combination with Rehan's split sreen transition
to turn a normal conversation into "man meets ghost" on a single
pass. Apply the effect to one version turning both people into
ghosts, no effect on the 2nd version, both real . Then use the split
screen transitions to put ghost on one side...real guy on the other.

You still need to use a tripod, get the background with no actors,
take a snapshot of the empty background within MM2, and then use
that snapshot as the background for these effects.

sorry to bring up an old post but i am registered with the Rehan PIP+ package and this effect still does not work for me. it just says "ERROR: File not found!" over and over again diagonally across the screen. i have made sure that it is an XML and that it is in the AddonTFX folder just like all of my other XMLs.
:(
somebody help!
thanks

I think I know what your problem is.

Our friend Rehan is a very sharp guy, and he built in
that error message when the file referenced in the
"background" statement is not found in the folder.

Thanks to that error message, we can be certain
that this is simply a mismatch between what you have coded
in the XML, and what is actually in the folder referenced.

So...lets look at the background statement that I coded.

<Param name="Background" value="C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Pictures\background.jpg" />

If you use the XML as I coded it above, your photo needs to be in
that exact path and folder...
Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Pictures

And it needs to be called "background.jpg"

I am betting your image has a different name, so change the
background statement in the XML to match your image file name.
And make sure it is in the proper folder.

Also...if you are using that 2nd example I pasted...I have an extra
"gotcha" in that statement. That \dave was left in there by
accident, so if you left that in your version of the XML...oops, sorry!
Take it out.

Just change it to the exact path that matches to the file name. Put it somewhere else that you know about and change both paths.

What path name did you use? And are you sure that your file is of the same type? Can you post your edited XML here?

Ok, so you have a photo named "background.jpg" ?
And it is located in the folder "documents and setting"?

I did a cut and paste on your code above, and then
I dropped a picture called background.jpg into "documents and settings"
Works just fine. So.................
Call me from Missouri, but can you do a screen print when you
are in Windows explorer for that directory, and show me what is in it?
Actually, it should only be other directories. Usually there are no files.

Take a screen print...paste it into paint... save as a JPG
and post that photo, like this.

screen

ok...ya showed me, and it's there.
I am running out room here...near the ledge...ready to jump.
One last try...I notice it has strange diminsions 801 x 501.
So I assume that did not come from a MM snapshot.
Is it possible that it was a different file type, and you
changed it to JPG? Or can you try an image that is a MM2 snapshot,
or can you post that image on putfile, and I can try it.

Cool picture...but I meant use that photo in the effect.
Rename it to back2.jpg
drop it into the Documents and Settings directory
change the background param to say back2.jpg
restart MM2
See if that works.

Now...what you need to do is take a snapshot(in MM2)
of that roof before the jump, when it's empty.
Then use that snapshot in the effect, apply the effect
to the movie of the guy(you?) jumping, and a ghost
will appear to jump from the roof, and disappear before
he hits the ground
