EffectID and Control1 help
Posted: 22 Mar 2006 02:19 AM
So I mentioned before that some of the effects we don't have in the "Art Pack" for example

42 StainedGlass
43 Glass
44 Texturizer
45 Underpainting
46 ConteCrayon
47 RoughPastel
48 Spatter

If someone has the xml do post...

Anyways I went ahead and made my own...

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{E673DCF2-C316-4c6f-AA96-4E4DC6DC291E}">
<Effect name="Stained Glass" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="42" />
<Param name="Control1Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control2Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control3Value" value="5" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Glass" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="43" />
<Param name="Control1Value" value="20" />
<Param name="Control2Value" value="20" />
<Param name="Control3Value" value="20" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Texturizer" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="44" />
<Param name="Control1Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control2Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control3Value" value="5" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Underpainting" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="45" />
<Param name="Control1Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control2Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control3Value" value="5" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="ConteCrayon" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="46" />
<Param name="Control1Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control2Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control3Value" value="5" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="RoughPastel" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="47" />
<Param name="Control1Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control2Value" value="5" />
<Param name="Control3Value" value="5" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Spatter" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="48" />
<Param name="Control1Value" value="20" />
<Param name="Control2Value" value="20" />
<Param name="Control3Value" value="20" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Stained Glass works (did we already have that) none of the others do, they're all black and no changing of the Control values does anything. So I am asking for help to figure this out.

Oh yeah I was playing around with some of the values so that's why they're different... But not really just 5's and 20's I tried many numbers and nothing more than black, could be a problem with the xml though. Maybe seperate files will work I'll try and see...

ok this has confused me even further am I missing something here?

On this page

Under "Filter Effects" Under Control1Value to Control8Value range is 0 or 1
Ok that's weird the others had 5's and 20's and I just tried these with 1's and 0's and they didn't work! I am missing something...

(Now I'm just putting all my thoughts on this post)

I found something else in the same table explaining parameters we get this, "TextureURL" applies to ConteCrayon, RoughPastel, Texturizer, and Underpainting effects. Could this be the problem? I don't think so, but waybe considering all the effects it applies to don't work right now.

Does this work as a parameter? <Param name="TextureURL" value="?" />
I doubt it... What's the value or range?

After looking at the xml they posted I see that some effects work with no parameters while some don't. Their version of Cutout was different because there were no Control values to change it. And Stained Glass worked so I guess that's why it worked in mine it's one of the ones that works with no parameters. But all the same ones I'm trying to get to work didn't work in that file either so I guess we're missing something, maybe an extra parameter? I don't know...

Maybe you have to set 'TextureURL' to the path to a file name to use as a texture? Try a .png, .bmp or .jpg perhaps...?

No tried that... Assuming the Shared folder is default.... That would make sense why it would be black but with titles when it can't find the picture it doesn't play...

Either a color string ("blue", "red", etc.) or a hex RGB value ("#8000FF") would be my guess.

(Update) I'm now experimenting with the effects in Wax because it can edit the parameters in the program and show you what difference you made... Now I'm just trying Control1Values...
