The Setup Movie Maker > MM2.1 page of my website has a section about Multilingual Setup.... maybe it'll help.

Welcome to the forum.

As far as I've been able to find, there are many language packs available to change MM on English XP to another language, but not vice versa. l have been wanting to do this ever since SP2 came out (convert MM on Japanese XP to English), but no luck yet.

This is surely something I'm looking out for, and one I hope they'll do.

I've searched the forum and the net, and as of yet, I still haven't found anything. :-(

I'm using Korean XP (live and work in Korea), but not well versed enough in Korean to manage Movie Maker in Korean. Checked out the MUI's, but they're all for languages other than English.

Has ANYONE found a solution? I've basically stopped editting my home vids because I'm not very fond of the software that came bundled with my digicam... :-(

I've mentioned this to Microsoft three times, and hope they will (someday) realize that there are oddballs like us who might want English software on non-English OSes.

For PC-based video, I just use the Japanese Movie Maker. For DVD, I use (English) Ulead Video Studio and DVD Movie Factory. They work fine for me with excellent, predictable results. Video Studio also supports and creates WMV, but with less control over output options than MM.

Best wishes from hot and humid Japan.

Thanks for the reply.

Ulead 7.0 came with my camera, but I find it a bit slow, clunky, and difficult to use...not terribly 'user intuitive'. Was hoping to find MM2 a little easier to use, but that's not gonna be the case in Korean!

Thanks again, and please post any future info you get.

And I'd take hot and humid over our current weather...it's been pissing down here for the past week...gotta love the rainy season! ;-)

I changed an Italian version of Movie Maker into english by doing the following and it worked for me

First download the english version of Windows Movie Maker from the following link:

http://www.download.com/Windows-Movie-Maker/3000-2194_4-10187903.html

The program is directed to download the Movie Maker from Microsoft

From the origional Windows Movie Maker folder in the program files copy all the files found there into a backup folder just in case of any unexpected errors

Then delete the files in the origional movie maker folder. Please note that during the process the files are reinstalled automatically by windows, but will not work when clicked on.

Now install the new Windows Movie Maker from the dowload you just downloaded. The program should reinstall with English set as the origional language.

This should fix the job as it did with mine.

thanks for the step by step rolemagic.... I added the info to my Setup Movie Maker > MM2.0 page.

Note that the download is from CNet, not from Microsoft. Microsoft only provides the MM2.1 version bundled in SP2. Your CNet link is the same one I provide on that setup page, so I know it's good MM2.0 package.

YES, YES, YEEESSSSSSS!

Thank you sooooo much! Such a simple fix to a big problem! Can't believe no one discovered this 'fix' earlier, but a big thanks to rolemagic for posting this.

And the whole process took less than 5 minutes!

I was going to say would just changing the language of Windows work? Just while you where using Windows Movie Maker and then change back when your done? But of course that would be annoying!

Well done rolemagic! A great start in the forum!

Go to this link : http://www.brothersoft.com/windows-movie-maker-download-76169.html

Download the Global version and install as you normally do with any installation.
Restart your computer, your movie maker will now change to English automatically.

I changed mine from German to English just doing that. I have windows XP home edition.

It may differ in other OS-

Hope this helps.

My anti-virus program gave me a warning that that download contained malware. While there a possiblility it was a false positive, I would urge anyone planning to download that file to check to make sure their anti-virus/malware program has been updated for the latest threats before they decide to download it.

That is the caveman way to change the language settings.
Go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials-change-language
for a more elegant way to change your language settings.
