Snow flurry, hidden effect!

The following hint requires that you have downloaded the Movie Maker - Winter Fun Pack 2003. If you don't have it, download it from the prior link.

I have stumbled upon a "hidden" effect that wasn't included in the original XML. Assuming you have installed the Winter Fun Pack, you should have a FunPackFX.xml file in your C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX directory. Open it up and add the following lines (shown in bold) and you'll get one additional effect I like to call 'Snowflurry'. It's a little faster than Snowflakes and comes from an angle.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0" SpecialIconFileID="20" SpecialIconResourceID="200">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{F5187D82-EAF5-11d7-9BA8-000000000000}">
<Transition name="Snow Wipe" iconid="1">
<Param name="EffectID" value="3001"/>
</Transition>
<Transition name="Snow Burst" iconid="2">
<Param name="EffectID" value="3002"/>
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{F5187D82-EAF5-11d7-9BA8-000000000000}">
<Effect iconid="0" name="Snowflakes">
<Param name="EffectID" value="201"/>
</Effect>
<Effect iconid="0" name="Snowflurry">
<Param name="EffectID" value="202"/>
</Effect>

</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

BTW, I tried a few other numbers for both transitions and effects, but only 202 worked. I'm curious to know why it was left out. Perhaps it caused problems on some systems, so if you see a problem on your system, let me know. Or maybe they just thought it was similar to the other effect?

Enjoy!

I did find one problem when I tried to combine it with a slow down effect... it cut out after a few seconds. But by itself it seems to work fine.

Even the ones they give are bad, at least in my experence!

I installed the Winter Fun Pack, but the two transitions that they give:
- Snow Burst
- Snow Wipe

give me crappy results. When I create the final movie, the animation
is jerky and looks terrible. I tried making the transition longer over time,
and that still didn't help.

Super cool! Thanks for posting. It was just what I needed to give my video an extra boost!

Do you have a way to modify the Snow Wipe, so that it wipes from left to right rather that down to up?
