Adding transitions created by self.
Posted: 01 Oct 2003 11:18 PM
Sup, guys. It's me again, and I have a question.

Is there a way where I can add my own transitions that I made? Because I thought of one, and I don't know if I can add it in the transitions section. Can someone please reply about it or help me out on it? Thanks.

Sure, you can make your own. But you'll be the first to report having successfully done one. See the Editing... Transitions and Effects pages of my website. There are a couple people working on effects, but I haven't heard about someone working on a transition - Yet!!

... my website isn't here... it's at www.papajohn.org

I can only point you to the information about how to do it. I should have pointed to the Editing... Video.... Transitions and Effects pages of my website.

I haven't done any myself.

if the tranisition is based on either an existing movie maker one or an SMPTE effect you can create them using XML - see the example below which implements two versions of the SMPTE four corners effect, one is more "blurry" than the other.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{DE75D012-7A65-11D2-8CEA-00A0C9441E20}"
comment="DxtJpeg/SMPTE wipes">
<Transition name="example four corners7/0" iconid="88" comment="four corners, smpte 7" >
<Param name="MaskNum" value="7" />
<Param name="BorderSoftness" value="0.0" />
</Transition>
<Transition name="example four corners7/99" iconid="88" comment="four corners, smpte 7" >
<Param name="MaskNum" value="7" />
<Param name="BorderSoftness" value="99.99" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

to use these you need to copy them into notepad and then the file with a .XML extension in a folder call ADDonTFX in the folder for your locale id in the movie maker installation folder in my case this was:

c:\program files\movie maker\1033

where 1033 is my locale id.

The parameters for tranisitions are documented on the microsoft website

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnwmt/html/moviemakersfx.asp

and some of it is pretty scary for a novice.

If you want to create your own effect from scratch your are entering the realm of C++ coding, where in my opinion Angels fear to tread.
