MPEG-4 doesn't use the .mpg extension so I think windows media encoder would work. Just search google for a download site I think it's freewareSmiley.

Hi TREXMATT,
I just got a new camera, DCS-H20 it was given about the best reviews by Consumer Reports for a small Sony Digital. My older Cyber Shot was great for 5 years, then it cracked like an egg.
I could easily hook it up to the computer cable and upload jpg pictures and mpg movies to Movie Maker and Photoshop. This new camera will only upload the pictures, it is not bringing up movies, I shot a few test clips and they work fine on camera but will not upload or be found when hooked up to the System (PC Dell Dimension 4600 XP). I also hooked up to a newer computer XP dualCore DEl Dimension 5150, same thing happens. I already tried switching camera from FINE to VGA and both do the same thing. Basically I can not the get the camera to upload a video or MPEG4 file to the computer or open in Windows moviemaker.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !

Sorry for no plug-in I've found that works for importing MP4 to Windows Movie Maker.

Well, as you know WWM video format is limited to AVI, MPEG and WMV files. That means you will fail to import and edit MP4 files in Windows Movie Maker. In order to make MP4 video clips compatible with WMM, an alternative solution is to convert MP4 to Windows Movie Maker natively supported formats like WMV or AVI in advance.

MPEG-4 is supported better in the latest versions of Movie Maker. But for the classic versions, I've always found it easier to convert to Movie Maker's preferred format of .wmv. There are lots of freeware converters; one that has worked well for me is Freemake Video Converter. It can also import and export to DVDs, or mobile device formats.

As with any freeware, regardless of what you install, be sure to choose the "Custom" install options so you can control what add-ons do or do not get installed.
