Rotate 180 - why's everything reversed!?
Posted: 26 Dec 2005 07:26 AM
Ok, this is puzzling me!

I've filmed some footage in my car which has to be done upside down due to the sucker I have on the windscreen. Now, when I come to add effects to this, if I select 'Mirror vertical effect' it's now not upside down - but I'm driving on the wrong side of the road, which I can understand HOWEVER, if I select "Rotate 180" this does the same thing ie wrong side of road , BUT if I do Rotate 90 twice this is not only the correct way round but nothing is reversed ie I'm driving on the correct side of the road!!

Now although it sounds like I have my solution the problem with using rotate 90 twice, the problem is that it sticks an ugly black border in which I don't want. What's the best way round this, is there any way to just rotate 180 without it reversing things??? Any help greatly appreciated!

You have discovered an interesting bug indeed.

However solution is not so tricky: Apply a "Mirror, Horizontal" effect on top of either of the "Mirror, Vertical" or "Rotate 180".

Furthermore here is corrected Rotate 180 effect:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0" >
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="My Rotate 180" iconid="23" >
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="left" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.5" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Copy paste the xml code into notepad and Save As rotate180.xml in folder C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX. Create the AddOnTFX folder if necessary. Confirm the file has .xml extension by turning off the "hide extensions of known file types" from Explorer > Tools > Folder options > View. Restart WMM.
