check the Importing Source Files > Music and Audio page of my website.
I play it in iTunes and capture it as it's playing as a narration file in MM2... |

| Yes iTunes are MP4's not a WMM capatible file. I never thought of the recording as narration though. I bought a program Visual Sound Recorder for $20. Any sound going though your card can be recorded. Even streaming audio... Probably not legal to copy and use in a production, unless it is for private use only. But if I buy the song in iTunes, then I OWN IT. ;o) |

| no.... you own the right to listen to it per the fine print of the agreement... you don't OWN the piece totally to do what you want with it. In providing advice on how to use a tune in Movie Maker, I assume users will adhere to appropriate copyright provisions.... |

Exactly. I do not endorse any illegal activities. Are you familiar with Copyrights Papa John? Why can I buy a song online and not use it, but if I own the CD I can.? Or can't I? Just because I can, maybe I shouldn't?
I found a commerical movie maker (more of a photo story maker) He will add non copywrighted music for free, but if you send the CD he will add your song. Does that mean it is legal since, the person owning the CD and the final CD are one and same? Just curious about all this. |

buying a tune online or getting a CD from a store... the copyright issues are the same.
if someone does you a service or copying a file from one of your devices (your CD) to another (your movie or story)... he's assuming you're adhering to the copyright provisions and he doesn't need to do any checking or assume any responsibility. |

Re: iTunes music won't import Posted: 18 Dec 2005 01:37 PM |
i think i have a solution for you
it doesnt really fix the actual problem that the file isnt compatible but it allows you to get around it and make an mp3 file out of it
1. alright so first open itunes go to edit>preferences>importing
2. now change it to "mp3 encoder"
3. now burn the songs that you want onto a cd
4. open the cds in itunes and import the songs to the library
5. find them on the hard drive (default location is in my documents\my music, or at least on mine) then when you find the file it will be an mp3, perfectly compatible with wmm |

Or burn them on to a CD in redbook audio format and then rip them back as .wma files. Some people report problems with .mp3, so if you do, the .wma format should help.

I recently learned that iTunes can be used to change m4a files to mp3 quite easily.
How to change your iTunes settings to make iTunes automatically rip CDs to mp3s instead of m4as
Click "edit," "preferences," "advanced," "importing." Change "import using" from "AAC encoder" to "mp3 encoder." You may have to change bitrate settings. (Or you might not.)
How to change your m4as into mp3s using iTunes (You will probably have to do the above step first in order for this to work, depending on what your settings are already at.)
Click "edit," "view options," show "kind" if you don't have that selected already, to reveal which songs are AAC (m4a.) Right-click on the files you want to convert and select "convert to mp3."
I hope this helps someone. |

| Anna, does this change the steps needed to get from a downloaded protected file to Movie Maker? I assume a downloaded tune still needs to be burned to a disc and then imported, or ripped into MM2 as a narration file. |

I had the same problem and figured it out.
So, here is what you do:
1. Go to Edit>Preferences>Import Settings
Change your import settings to "mp3 encoder"
2. Then, in iTunes, highlight whatever song you would like to bring to Windows Movie Maker
3. Next, click on the "Advanced" tab on iTunes and click on "Create mp3 Version"
Now, reopen Windows Movie Maker, and you will be able to find the mp3 version of the song you chose and have it in your movie:) |

| helper123 - a safer option may be to select "Create wav version" instead, as Movie Maker seems to like that format better than mp3. |

Open iTunes; and select the song you want to import into movie maker. Click the Advanced tap on the menu bar and select Create MP3 version. This will create another file of the same song which can be imported into windows movie maker. If you don't see Create MP3 Version go to Edit and Preferences and ck your import settings.
Now open movie maker and click on import music and open your itunes file and select this new version you just created.
I've created 2 family videos and working on my third one for a birthday....I get all my music from iTunes.
I hope this helps.

| We like to put music to family videos, too, and this method used to work for us, but now it isn't working. We get the same "could not be imported" message. We're using itunes version 9.0.3.15. |

| I had that problem when I was working on a project. This is a little late but if anyone else has that problem, you can convert the song in your iTunes into an mp3...it makes a copy of it, but...it worked perfectly for me. |

| To convert your files fast and easily between all popular file formats you can use a media converter that can convert those files that iTunes can't. I use TuneRaft because it's easy to use and shows great results. If interested, you can visit http://www.tuneraft.com/ for info and free trial. |

Re: iTunes music won't import Posted: 03 May 2010 03:15 PM |
| I am having a similar problem, however I have already converted the song to MP3 format and am still having problems importing into WMM. I thought I might be doing something wrong, so I attempted to add another song that I purchased from iTunes and it worked no problem. The error message that I am getting is XXX could not be imported. It doesn't tell me why. Please help, I am trying to complete a slide show for my son's high school graduation! Thanks for you help. |

| Thank you for your help, but I have figured it out. For others experiencing the same thing, I used Audacity (free download) and opened the song in the MP3 format and then did export as WAV. I then was able to import into WMM with no problems. |

If you have no problem of downloading anything, I would recommend this program Called MP3 WMA Converter 1.9. It is a few months old and you are able to upload your Itunes songs to it and convert it to WMA, which is the preferred format.
The Program can be found here.
