messing with overlays from hittthebongo's site Posted: 18 Oct 2005 10:30 PM |
Al,
Hope I am not stepping on toes here, but I was
thinking you could bring your fire to life. Or maybe you did
that or planned it that way. I searched, and didn't see anything.
firetitle
Not as good as other fire titles, but just trying to show
an example of how still images can be put together.

Treading on toes? - NO WAY !...
I posted somthing a while back (I've tried searching - and I can't even find the post) that had a little fire demo. The effect I used was a simple transition that dragged one overlay over the other to provide movement. I think I used a metacreations transition as well to make it ripple. Is your method the same?
Feel free to comment and suggest ideas on any of the stuff I've published or posted here. One of the great things about this forum is how ideas are thrashed out, always pushing the original concept in an upwards direction.

I just added your 5 clips to the timeline, squeezed them
each to the shortest length possible(.13 seconds),
and then just dragged a copy of all 5 down the line,
then dragged a copy of those 10 down the line,
then those 20 down the line, and pretty quickly had a fire movie.
Saved that, imported back in, and used COMP A add B over
the first title, and COMP A subt B over the second title.
You could just as easily create 5 PIP+ overlay effects
using each image...break your title up into small segments,
and apply the effects randomly to each segment. The fire lives.
You could do the same thing with title overlays, but I can never
get a title overlay to be less than .26 seconds...so it may be
just a little choppy.

Thanks - and very well put. I'd like to link back to this post ,but if the putfile link times out it'll make it a bit meaningless. Would you be OK if I uploaded your vid to youtube and then linked back to this thread?

Al,
Fine with me. Anything I post becomes free to use,
or reference, or copy, or whatever. And no need to
bother with crediting...I don't care about that either.
I sound like some kind of socialist or something, but no...
I am a capitalist to the bone.
However...feel free to reference how you choose. It may be
easier when someone comes along and says..."hey, this don't work"
Now I sound like a capitalist...or a manager.

Al,
That is of course if my source material is free to use.
I thought I read a post from you saying that the images you
posted were free to use...

Thanks DLK - credit where credit is due , and like yourself all my source material is free for any use - unless it says otherwise. When I get round to it I'll add a copyright statement to my site. Where I need to tread carefully is where I use other peoples images with permission but where they may require creditation (those modified European Space Agency pics are an example)
As mentioned before - if you're able to post your vids and images to a service that doesn't time out it would be enormously helpful when referencing .
I am going to tip my hat toward capitalism at some point by adding an advert bar to try and recover my webhosting costs (I'm still trying to find the right time to confess that one to the missus)
Cheers
Al

Hi.
I never got round to posting xml on my site but here is a link to download a self installing zip that will install the orange fire png images and xml. effects show as "BFX fire.."
You do need Rehans pip+ to use with the supplied xml.
I'll do the blue fire when I get a chance.
Once you have the static overlays you can then follow DLKs technique or play around in other ways to create an illusion of movement

Thanks, Al.
I'm getting smarter each day. Last night after messing around with your sniper stuff for several hours I figured out that I needed PIP+.
I'll d/l that tonight when I get home.
I was able to impress myself just by what I could do w/o it.
Thanks. |

Magic rat - Thanks. I really appreciate the feedback.
I'm sure your not the only one who has had difficulties implementing some of the pip+ effects. I really need to make it clearer to visitors as to what is required. ...BTW, I've no affilliation with PIP+, it just happens to be a very useful tool !
TIP - Check out DLKs posts. He's come up with some excellent pip+ effects

Re: messing with overlays from hittthebongo's site Posted: 19 Nov 2005 01:48 AM |
Excellent footage magic. Hopefully your left kneecap was still intact after those turns !
BTW...in case you wasn't aware - the order that video effects are applied (on a clip) in the effects menu can have different results on the final output. The bottom effect usually takes prescedence. If you was to place the overlay effect at the bottom with the night vision just above - the overlay would appear black and just the video would be shown in nightvision. You can get some quite interesting effects just by changing the order of them.
