Credits/Video Effect Request
Posted: 18 Oct 2005 10:58 AM
Hi guys, good to be back again. You guys were extremely helpful on my previous questions, so I'd figure I'd see if you guys could help me with this one as well.

I'm looking to do a certain kind of credits animation. I know WMM provides the abaility to have a movie and credits playing at the same time, but it doesn't have the look I want. I want bloopers to be playing in the top left corner at around 200x150, the text "BLOOPERS" on the right side of it flipped at 90 degrees CCW, and the a credits animation similar to "Credits: Fly In, Left and Right" below the bloopers.

For reference, I created an image of what I am talking about. You may view the image by clicking here.

I was thinking this would perhaps be possible my combining perhaps a scale effect for the bloopers and then a "Comp A & B" transition to get the credits in on the same movie. Am I off?

I think I may of came up with something you can use. Here is an example.

It does take three custom effects and one title. Here is the XML for them all.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">

<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="Mallett65 Move Left-Up" iconid="34" comment="Left Corner">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.80" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="left,up" />
<Param name="MoveSpeedA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.4" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.15" />

</Effect>

<Effect name="Mallett65 Move Right" iconid="34" comment="Slide Right">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="0.9" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="right" />
<Param name="MoveSpeedA" value="3.0" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="0.9" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.14" />

</Effect>

<Effect name="Mallett65 Move Up" iconid="34" comment="Slide Up">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="MoveA" value="up" />
<Param name="MoveSpeedA" value="3.0" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.05" />

</Effect>

</EffectDLL>
</Effects>

<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Credits: Mallett65s Custom Fly In, Left and Right" iconid="13">
<Param name="InternalName" value="CreditStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Paired credits fly in from left and right" />
<Param name="CreditLineOverlap" value="0.03" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="0.75" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.75" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="Shadow" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="48" />
<Param name="OptimalDurationMultiplier" value="1.5" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.1 0.8 0.8" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.5 0.8" />
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.5 0.8" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.5 0.8" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.15 0.2 0.7 0.3" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="16.0" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="-0.5 0.8" />
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.45 0.8" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="-0.5 0.8" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Bottom" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="1.5 0.8" />
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.55 0.8" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="1.5 0.8" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="25.0" />
<Param name="ProgressDelay" value="0.2" />
<Param name="ProgressDuration" value="0.7" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.15 0.5 0.7 0.4" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>

</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

After you copy and paste this into your AddOnTFX You are ready to start.

Apply the Mallett65 Move Left-Up effect to your blooper clip.
Make your blooper title using the basic title that came with movie maker
Once you got it on the timeline stretch so that it the same length as your clip then add these effects in this order.
1 Rotate 270 (Came with movie maker)
2 Mallett65 Move Right
3 Mallett65 Move Up

Add your Comp A add B transition

Finally add your credits on the select clip. Choosing Credits: Mallett65s Custom Fly In, Left and Right from your credit menu.

Enjoy

What Mallett did is impressive. Following on from the example above, here's an alternate solution that does it all in a single title (no rotations or resizing effects needed).

You will need to download the following image (bloopers3vn.png) and place it in your C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX folder. (If the folder doesn't exist, create it.)

Next copy the following code into Notepad, and save it as bloopers.xml, again in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX.
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Credits: Framed Video (Bloopers) w/ Fly-in Left/Right" iconid="13" >
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderFirst" />
<Param name="InternalName" value="CreditStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Framed Video (bloopers) with Credits from Left/Right" />
<Param name="CreditLineOverlap" value="0.25" />
<Param name="EntranceVideoRect" value="0.05 0.05 0.6 0.6" />
<Param name="MainVideoRect" value="0.05 0.05 0.6 0.6" />
<Param name="ExitVideoRect" value="0.05 0.05 0.6 0.6" />
<Param name="LogoBitmapFilename" value="AddOnTFX\bloopers3vn.png" />
<Param name="LogoRect" value="0 0 1 1" />
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderFirst"/>
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="48" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="0.5" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.5" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.7 0.8 0.2" />
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="ForceCenterAlignment" value="true" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.25 0.7 0.25" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="-0.5 0.8" />
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.45 0.8" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="-0.5 0.8" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Bottom" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="16.0" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="1.5 0.8" />
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.55 0.8" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="1.5 0.8" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="25.0" />
<Param name="ProgressDelay" value="0.2" />
<Param name="ProgressDuration" value="0.8" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.50 0.8 0.35" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="25.0" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

When you restart WMM you should have a new set of Credits called:
"Credits: Framed Video (Bloopers) w/ Fly-in Left/Right"

Place your video on the timeline. Choose Tools > Titles and Credits > titles on the selected clip. For the animation choose the new "Credits: Framed Video..." and then go back and type the text you want to display. Click 'Done' and stretch the title overlay to match the length of your video.

BTW, you can always change the .png file if you want to make a different background for your video and credits.

I never gave the overlay a thought. You make it so simple. I guess thats why you are the pros. Well done.

Well, my solution "locks down" the text as an image where your solution allows the user to change it from within WMM and get a match on fonts. I think both methods have their benefits. And I'm certainly no "pro". I'm just having fun playing with what I've learned here. Seems like you are doing the same and I'm impressed that in just a few short weeks you've picked up XML and run with it. Well done. By the way, I never said it but I especially liked your "Indiana Jones" title.

Thanks for the kind words but I have been at this for a little longer then few weeks. I have been lurking since mid July. I started making some transitions, then moved onto effects (maybe I should post a few of them also. I don't know if they would help anyone.) and finally started making titles.

This stuff gets in your blood so bad. I see something on tv and all I can do is try to figure out how I can do that in movie maker. In fact my wife was laying in a hospital bed waiting to have a biopsi done when the Indiana Jones idea came to me. I know I need help.

I had surgery myself two weeks ago and gave a lot of time to work on this. I'll return to work around the first of November so my movie making time will be limited. I'll try to keep up as this forums move on. I'll help when I can and continue to study every XML posted.
I can't wait to see what comes next.

May I know if there is equivalent codes for "Credits: Framed Video (Bloopers) w/ Fly-in Left/Right " in WMM6.0

Many thanks in advance.

First, here's an updated Demo Video of the title (since the prior link expired).

For WMM 6.0, you will still need to download the following image (bloopers3vn.png) and save it on your Desktop.

Next copy the following code into Notepad, and save it as bloopers.xml, again on your desktop.

Now you will need to copy both those files (bloopers3vn.png and bloopers.xml) to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="2.8">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="TFX">
<Title name="Credits: Framed Video (Bloopers) w/ Fly-in Left/Right" guid="Credits: Framed Video (Bloopers) w/ Fly-in Left/Right" iconid="13" comments="Blaine's post #251252">
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderFirst" />
<Param name="Animation" value="CreditStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="Framed Video (bloopers) with Credits from Left/Right" />
<Param name="CreditLineOverlap" value="0.25" />
<Param name="EntranceVideoRect" value="0.05 0.05 0.6 0.6" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="MainVideoRect" value="0.05 0.05 0.6 0.6" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="ExitVideoRect" value="0.05 0.05 0.6 0.6" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="LogoBitmapFilename" value="AddOnTFX\bloopers3vn.png" />
<Param name="LogoRect" value="0 0 1 1" />
<Param name="RenderOrder" value="RenderFirst"/>
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="48" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="0.5" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.5" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.7 0.8 0.2" />
<Param name="IsOneLine" value="true" />
<Param name="ForceCenterAlignment" value="true" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.25 0.7 0.25" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="-0.5 0.8" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.45 0.8" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="-0.5 0.8" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Bottom" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="16.0" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="1.5 0.8" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.55 0.8" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="1.5 0.8" evaluation="Linear"/>
<Param name="FontSize" value="25.0" />
<Param name="ProgressDelay" value="0.2" />
<Param name="ProgressDuration" value="0.8" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.50 0.8 0.35" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="25.0" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

The instructions for using the title are the same as for WMM 2.x. When you restart WMM you should have a new title animation under Credits called:
"Credits: Framed Video (Bloopers) w/ Fly-in Left/Right"

Place your video on the timeline. Choose Tools > Titles and Credits > titles on the selected clip. For the animation choose the new "Credits: Framed Video..." and then go back and type the text you want to display. Click 'Add Title' and stretch the title overlay to match the length of your video.

BTW, you can always change the .png file if you want to make a different background for your video and credits. Just keep the size of the rectangle the same.
