'Wipe' Transition with 'flying' image
Posted: 10 Sep 2005 09:43 AM
Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to create some sort of 'Narrow Wipe', but with an image on top that moves with the transition.

For Example, Video A (left) is in A snowy country and Video B is in a hot country, and the image is some form of transport (eg plane).

Thanks!

You could simulate that effect with a PIP+ effect, the PUSH transition,
COMPA+B and a pure white airplaine image.

Rather crude I am afraid...and my airplane needs a little work

Thats getting there... but I was thinking more of like the wipe transition where the transition and image move together, however the video does not move (ie does not push)

I don't have PIP+, and I have no way of buying it until I'm 18... There would be no other way, right?

Ok...I get it, you want a "reveal". That may be easier,
and can be done without PIP+, but the plane will
need to materialize out of thin air. Give me a minute
to try something.

The "plane" was only an example by the way :)

I actualy plan to use a plumbob (The crystal above a sim's head in The Sims)

I'm currently touching the plumbob up.

Ok...I guess this is what you really meant.

plane2

This still uses PIP+, but give me a minute to try something else.
We need the plane to fly in from the right...so hold on.

Ok...the same can be done without PIP+, but it is more difficult.
You need to use a blank black image(like a blank title) along with
your plumb bob image. Use the PUSH transition to move the plumb bob
onto the screen, and then again with the black image to push it off the
screen. Get it? Black to plumb bob, then plumb bob to black.
Also create a movie with your narrow wipe. Then pull both those
movies back in and use the COMP A and B to overlay the 2, so that
the wipes coincide. It's tricky business, but it can be done.

I do not know of any simple transitions.

Even now after sleeping, I'm still a little confused.

The plumbob is here: http://simvision.net/svp/images/plumbob.gif

Since your plumb is green and not white, I guess you would
need to use the chroma-black transition. The CompAandB
would tend to make the green look transparent, but the
chroma transition looks crappy around the edges.
Not exactly perfect looking(can you tell I like perfection??)

plumb

So again...
Make your movie with the narrow wipe(snow to sun). That will be used later.
Then...
Add a blank title with a black background to you timeline. Add the effect
"brightness decrease" to the title, just to be sure it is total black.
Add the plumb bob to the timeline, make it twice as long as the title
Copy the title, so that copy is on the timeline after the plumb bob.
Use the Push Left transition between each image(overlaying as
much as possible). That clip should then look like the plumb bob
enters, stage right and exits, stage left.

finally..import the wipe clip and the push clip and merge them with
the chroma black transition. The trick will be to create those 2 movies
so the the movement is timed correctly. That's where your MM skills come in.

I don't think you can use this function to push in other directions
It is directionally challenged, or it suffers from monomotion
If you have PIP+, you can use these.

Probably. I rarely look at the icon, I just look for the name alphabetically.
I probably have 600-700 transitions and effects, and I probably know
each and every one of them(by name and function).
