RehanFX: ShaderTFX Translucency Help
Posted: 24 Mar 2014 12:02 AM
Recently I downloaded the ShaderTFX add-on for Movie Maker v6. It seems to have installed correctly because I now have a bunch more transitions and effects, but there is no new effect/transition that will give me a translucency effect between two videos/pictures. Is there something I did wrong?

First, confirm whether you have matched versions of ShaderTFX and WMM 6.0. If you are on a 64-bit version of Windows, you want to install the 64-bit version of both. The result should be Movie Maker installed in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker along with the add-ons in ..\Shared.

Verify that the transitions and effects are working from ShaderTFX. If they are, then proceed to installing the translucency *transitions*. By the way, they are transitions, not effects. You must put them between two clips and overlap them as much as possible.

Check the pinned post to find the Compositing and Translucency transitions.

I can see it now and it's working properly. Thanks!
One more question though, is it possible to make transitions that are longer than a few seconds?

The length of a transition is dictated by the amount of overlap. In WMM 6.0 you just drag the clips over each other as much as possible to get a longer transition.

Okay, thanks.
Last question, I promise. It seems that movie maker 6 automatically makes the audio gradually fade away. Can I do anything to stop this?

Nope, a transition is both a video and audio transition. The only thing you can do is to mute the original audio, then put a clean copy of the audio in the audio-music track. If you do that, it will be unaffected by the transition.
