MTS Files - Please Help! :)
Posted: 03 Feb 2012 03:05 PM
Hey everyone,

Firstly I'd like to say sorry if this is already covered somewhere on here, but I am really stuck with trying to get this worked out and I have been directed to this site for help.

Basically, I have bought a new camcorder today but I've got an old laptop with Windows Vista on it, my video file format is coming up as MTS AVCHD or something along those lines, and my Windows Movie Maker will not allow me to use the file as it doesn't have the codecs for it.

I have read 100 things from sites on google with all kinds of advice, none of them work, so if someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

I've found that a lot of the guides on google only give you half an idea what to do.

Thanks,
Scott.

Movie Maker prefers .wmv files so I would recommend converting the .mts files to .wmv. A good freeware converter for this job is Freemake Video Converter (Freemake.com). I've used it many times for converting AVCHD into .wmv files before editing in WMM.

Since Windows Movie Maker only supports WMV, ASF, MPG (MPEG-1) and AVI (DV-AVI) video formats, in order to edit AVCHD MTS video files in Windows Movie Maker, you need to convert MTS to Windows Movie Maker supported video formats first.

To finish the task, you can use Brorsoft MTS/M2TS Converter, the best video converter that can help you transcode AVCHD .mts to Windows (Live) Movie Maker WMV, AVI, etc. with high output video quality.

MKV is not supported by Windows Movie Maker. To get MKV files work with Windows Movie Maker, you will need to encode MKV to Windows Movie Maker supported media formats like WMV, AVI, ASF, etc.

To transfer AVCHD videos shot by camcorder, you can turn to Video Converter. Movie Maker is well compatible with WMV files, that is to say if you want to use Movie Maker to edit AVCHD files, you need to convert AVCHD to WMV in advance. Here is the site where I got Video Converter. Hope it also helps you.
