How do I copy short parts of a movie and save under another name?
Posted: 19 Dec 2011 03:23 PM
Hi again out there.
The story is like this:
I have a movie in Windows Live Movie maker. ( About 30 minutes long)
I want to copy a part about 30 second long and save it under another name, then go back to the movie again and copy another 30 sekonds and so on until I have the "snippets" I need to use in combination with a slide show.
Can somebody please tell me how this is done.?

Best regards

Import your 30 minute long video. Put splits between each of the parts that you want by pressing the 'M' key. For any parts that you don't want, just select them and delete them. Now save this project (in case something goes wrong).

Now highlight everything except the first clip (using Shift-click and/or Ctrl-click) and press the 'Delete' key. From the main menu choose 'Save Movie'. Give it a name like 'Movie Clip 1' or whatever. When it is done saving, press Ctrl-Z to undo the deleted clips and repeat the process. This time delete everything except the second clip. Save it as a movie (e.g. 'Movie Clip 2') and then Ctrl-Z to undo, repeat, repeat, repeat until done.

Thank you for cind help considerate boy. This sounds like exactly what I am looking for, but I can not make it work. The problem is. I load the film into windows live ( This works fine) Then I use the "bar" over the film ( on the right side) to "scrub" over the film to find the starting point of the piece I want to use, the I press "M" and the film splits. But after that it is not possible to go any further, It is not possible to "scrub" or play the film so I can find the ending point or the other parts.

Now lets say ( as an exaple) that I want to ceep a piece that starts 00.23.18 into the film and ends at 00.41.47. After that I want to ceep a piece that starts at 02.03.17 into the film and ends at 02.41,41 What do you sugest?

I am sorry to bother you with all this beginners questions, but there is no other to ask.

Best regards

Hmm... it sounds like your file type isn't 100% compatible with Movie Maker. Can I assume it is NOT a .wmv file? You might try converting it to .wmv format first (using Freemake Video Converter, free download) then making your edits.

You would simply make splits at 0:23.18, 0:41.47, 2:03.17 and 2:41.41. Delete the unnecessary parts to get down to the two clips you want.

You are probably right considerate guy. I look at the properties of the film, and i says: mpg file.

WMM has traditionally had lots of problems editing .mpg files. I think we are on the right track with the conversion.
