How do I import only a small part of a video?
Posted: 21 Nov 2011 02:25 PM
Hi out there again.
I want to import only a small part ( about 5 minutes) of a film into a show, ( The whole film is about 1 hour long)
What is the best way to do this?
Do I have to import the whole film into moviemaker and "delete" the parts I dont need, or is there a way to ONLY IMPORT WHAT I NEED. If so, could you please thell how to do this ?
and, can it all be done using moviemaker alone, or do I have to download another program?
It would be nice if it all could be done using only moviemaker.

Best rewgards

It depends on where you have the original video. If it is on your computer already, then you would import the clip, trim the start and end points and save it back out as a movie.

If it is on a camcorder, you can do a manual capture and only import the selected part of the movie, then use WMM for the last bit of editing, if you need to do a little more trimming.

The video is on my computer. ( The video is 1 hour long) When you say "imort the clip" will this say that I have to import 1 hour of video and trim avay the parts I dont need and save it back out as a movie?

best regards

Are you using Windows Movie Maker, or Windows Live Movie Maker? In either case, if the video is already on your computer, when you "import" it into the program, you are just adding a reference to it. It actually doesn't go anywhere. It should almost immediately appear in the program so you can trim out the part(s) you don't want.

You can use a video app to trim your source video first.

1. Import your source video
2. Click Edit your trim your video to the decent part you want.
3. Start trimming.
