Windows Live Movie Maker error 0x80131620
Posted: 25 May 2011 10:39 AM
I now get this error message 0x80131620 at every attempt to upload a video.

When I looked it up in a google search all I see is a load of sites asking me to do free error scans that I know will then try to freak me out with a list of thousands of errors and supposedly dangerous stuff that can be fixed if I buy their products.

Or I can see a load of technical stuff that I can't follow.

Although I have only very limited pc knowledge I am sure that this WLMM error can be fixed without buying a cure.

Can you give me the easiest way to fix this error.

I suspect this is a problem with actually saving your movie, not a problem with the upload. This usually happens when you use incompatible file types (e.g. .avi/.mov/.mpg).

To confirm this, try saving the movie to your computer. If you get similar errors, then you should look at your source files. Any video files should be converted to .wmv format (FreeMake is a good tool for this). And audio files (even .mp3) should be converted to .wma.

Let us know if that fixes the problem; it should.

Congratulations on being aware enough to be suspicious of what you found. There is a ton of bad stuff lurking out there.

The problem with the one touch "do it all for you" buttons is that if there is a problem, you don't know where it happened. Another thing you could do to troubleshoot this is to try to just save your movie to your pc. That should help you find out if it is a saving or uploading problem. You could always save the file to your pc and then manually upload your file outside of Windows Live as a work around.

As far as MP3s go, I would substitute the word especially for even in Blaine's post. It is an audio format that can cause lots of problems. Some will work great and others be no end to trouble.

G'day considerate guy and also splante75,.,thanks to you both for replying.
I have done the saving to my computer part, because that only entails me clicking on the button for it. It saves my videos no worries.
I then go through the youtube upload and end up getting the error message.
And I have to say that I am at a loss trying to follow the next lot of instructions. I just don't know anything about ,.,.,incompatible file types (e.g. .avi/.mov/.mpg),.,or ,.source files,.,,audio files (even .mp3) should be converted to .wma.,.,etc.
The thing is. I was able to upload videos to youtube using the simple WLMM youtube upload.I didn't have to have any pc skills for that. Then all of a sudden I get the error message.
And I have no one at all to sit at my computer to show or help me.
What I am saying is, I appreciate you taking your valueable time to help me, but I don't understand the technical jargon and what these things mean.
When I try to find help myself on how to do these things I always get to places or answers where it's assumed that I already know what everything means.
I don't. I'm lost.

I've still got a smile on my dial and send eeeeeeeerz cheeeeeerz to all your earz from a frustrated Frozzy

How long is your movie? YouTube has limits on length and file size.

5 minutes is definately within YouTube guidelines. They have a file size limit, but I would be surprised if a 5 minute movie was exceeding that.

I did a quick search over at the Windows Live Solution Center. Here are some posts that I found:

http://windowslivehelp.com/thread.aspx?threadid=d365d03b-5219-4ae8-bbfb-1159b58665c2

Both posts indicate that you will need to uninstall Windows Live, reboot and reinstall.

I just got the same error message trying to upload to Facebook straight from WMM. My file is small, and only 3 minutes - saved it the .wmv format as recommended. It will load directly to Facebook if I want, but I WANT to start loading some straight from WMM ... what's the deal with this error code? And like Frozzy, I'm way not too techie! LOL I just wish it was more simple - like, click and go! I THINK it is SUPPOSED to work like that!
