Custom Transitions, Effects, and Titles for Windows Live Movie Maker. Also an SDK
Posted: 26 Feb 2011 07:58 PM
I am back at the Movie Maker Forums for a little bit now and I have decided to focus my attention on Windows Live Movie Maker. My hope is to encourage others to help contribute for the customizing of Windows Live. So here I will post my custom transitions, effects and titles for Windows Live. I am also creating an SDK (Software Development Kit) for everyone to use and hopefully increase activity with Windows Live Movie Maker. You will see this post updated frequently.Smiley

To do list:
Finish the SDK (Its at about 30%)
DONE See Here - Figure out how to use icons for the custom transitions, effects, and titles. (I have a couple ideas in mind)
Understand every parameter and line of code in the .wlmx and .wlms template files. (Its coming along slowly)

Adding custom transitions and effects:
You are going to need admin privileges to add these files.
To get to the "MovieMakerTemplates" folder you need to navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\MovieMakerTemplates
There are two options you can use for adding custom transitions and effects:

1. Copy and paste the code into notepad and name it (Name.wlmx), then place it inside the "MovieMakerTemplates" folder.
2. Download the file and place it inside the "MovieMakerTemplates" folder.

There are two options you can use for adding custom titles:
1. Copy and paste the code into notepad and name it (Name.wlms), then place it inside the "MovieMakerTemplates" folder.
2. Download the file and place it inside the "MovieMakerTemplates" folder.

You can find all these downloads also on my Comcast website. (link is in my signature)

I greatly appreciate the fruits of your hard work and for sharing them with us.
Are there video clips posted somewhere that show examples of the Custom Transitions, Effects, and Titles?

Thank you. I'll check this post in a few days to see if you've posted links to sample vids. :-)

The sample videos are up. Remember the HitTheBongo transitions were originally made for XP, I just remade them to work on Windows Live and Windows Vista. The sample vids just link to HitTheBongo's site were he posted his videos of the transitions. They are going to look exactly the same though.
I will try to make sure I have sample videos for each transitions, effect, and title I make now though.

Edit:
Just a side note I am adding for later:
<MetadataInteger containerField='value' name='TemplateSubType' value='4'/>
<MetadataInteger containerField='value' name='TemplateEffectKind' value='4'/>
1=Transitions
2=Effects
3=Pan and Zoom
Interesting...

How To Install My .zip Files Listed Here
Posted: 26 Apr 2011 10:53 PM
This is just a guide for those who do not know what to do when downloading my transitions and effects without any explanation. I will explain it now:

For 32-bit users:
1. Download the transition or effect of your choice.
2. Unzip the folders to your desktop or another folder.
3. Move the folders to C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\
4. Installation is done.

For 64-bit users:
1. Download the transition or effect of your choice.
2. Unzip the folders to your desktop or another folder.
3. Move the folders to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\
4. Installation is done.

I really need a reveal left transition, but I'm working with Windows Live Movie Maker that comes with Windows 8. It uses .wlmx files, not .xml, which you say is pretty much the same, but I have so far failed to adapt any of the transitions to .wlmx. I followed your directions with no success. I tried just making a copy of one of the stock transitions, renaming it, and changing one of the parameters then rebooting Movie Maker, but it didn't show up with the rest of the transitions. Any ideas?
