You are sure that you used 'Notepad' (not another editor)... also the file name is 'brady.xml'? Be sure that the icon for it shows a globe between brackets. If not, the extension is not .xml. Also, you need to restart WMM for the new effects and transitions to appear.

Yes...COMP A and B is a transition.

Same questions as before...
You have a file named composite.xml and within that file
the code looks exactly like this?

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{9A43A844-0831-11D1-817F-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition name="Comp A add B" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_A_ADD_B">
<Param name="Function" value="9" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Glad you got it working, and I hope that find it as easy to
use as I intended. You simply shrink the clip once, and move
it around the screen like one of those little slide puzzles.
Then combine the pieces with COMP A add B.
The only problem is that you have to make multiple passes.

What file type is the video you're using? (In Movie Maker, right click the file and hit "properties." Hold your mouse on the location and see what the last couple letters are after the period.) Is it MPEG? MPEG files don't always work in Movie Maker.

Hi,
Let me get up to speed on where you are at, and clarify limitations.
First, you need the PIP+ effect that resizes
Then you need the PIP+ move effects to place the clips
in each of the respective squares.
Then you need to transition the clips(only 2 at a time) with each other
using the COMP A add B transition.
Let me repeat that last point. Only 2 at a time. So if you have 9 clips
(including your title), you can combine 1&2 3&4 5&6 7&8 on the 1st pass
then combine 1-2&3-4 and 4-6&7-8 on the second pass
then combine 1-2-3-4&5-6-7-8 on the 3rd pass
and finally combine 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 with clip 9 on the last pass

So...if that is what you are doing, let's go to your problem
When you apply the Comp A add B transition, you just need
to move the 2nd clip to the left to increase the transition length.
You should not/cannot move it underneath the clip, or it will go
to the audio track. There is not a 2nd video track...so it can only
move on the horizontal.

yes... I think, I have some PIP effects but that may be the problem so I'll try that and post back if I still have problems.

Look for 'PIP Plus' and then at the top of the download box in green, find the 'main plug-in' download. That's mandatory. It's above the user submitted effects.

What would I do if I wanted this to only be a 2*2 or a 1*5? Are there any slight alterations to the coding I can do?

Thanks :)

Hey i've copy and pasted that code <TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0" SpecialIconFileID="1033" SpecialIconResourceID="101">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{0BEDE179-3361-4eea-9058-11CBB1739D50}">
<Effect name="Brady Bunch Window" iconid="0">
<Param name="RectA" value=" 0.0, 0.00,0.00,0.334,0.334" />
<Param name="Background" value="0x000000" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Brady Bunch Shift" iconid="0">
<Param name="RectA" value=" 0.0, 0.334,0.00,1.00,1.00" />
<Param name="Background" value="0x000000" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Brady Bunch Drop" iconid="0">
<Param name="RectA" value=" 0.0, 0.00,0.334,1.00,1.00" />
<Param name="Background" value="0x000000" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{9A43A844-0831-11D1-817F-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition name="Comp A add B" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_A_ADD_B">
<Param name="Function" value="9" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

And made two copies of it, one being "brady.xml" and "COMP.xml"
I'm not sure if thats what i was to do, but i made ysure they were the xml extension and that they were in
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX

but they did not come in the video effects sectionSadBrady or Comp for that matter :(
What am i doing wrong please?

FL.
p.s. sorry only a newbie.

what you're trying to do is beyond the grasp of a newbie.... maybe what you're doing wrong is labeling yourself as one....Smiley

FrontLine,

1) Are you on XP?
2) Are you sure you have PIP+ (not PIP) loaded and do the effects/transitions that come with PIP+ appear in your list and work correctly?
3) When you look at the .xml files, are they showing as a globe icon between < brackets > ?
4) Are you sure you used *Notepad*, not any other editor?

3. Yes, picture...
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/489/achooxl4.jpg
4. Yes notepad for sure i use to do a few Scripts for AmxX a while back soTongue out

When i say newbie, i mean i'm new to this Papa :)

Why is that you have to have to identical files COMP and brady?
And how is it neither show up in Video Effects, or even Transitions for that sake :(

Do other PIP effects show up in your effects section in MM? Its possible you have a bad file or bad install.....you didn't get the PIPplus from Rehans site which you should do if you don't have a good install. Its here...
RehanPIPplus

Your xml should be in the AddOnTFX folder at c/ program files/ movie maker/ shared/ addOnTFX ...............and if you right click on it and open it with notepad it should look exactly like this (as you showed above)

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0" SpecialIconFileID="1033" SpecialIconResourceID="101">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{0BEDE179-3361-4eea-9058-11CBB1739D50}">
<Effect name="Brady Bunch Window" iconid="0">
<Param name="RectA" value=" 0.0, 0.00,0.00,0.334,0.334" />
<Param name="Background" value="0x000000" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Brady Bunch Shift" iconid="0">
<Param name="RectA" value=" 0.0, 0.334,0.00,1.00,1.00" />
<Param name="Background" value="0x000000" />
</Effect>
<Effect name="Brady Bunch Drop" iconid="0">
<Param name="RectA" value=" 0.0, 0.00,0.334,1.00,1.00" />
<Param name="Background" value="0x000000" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Make certain you don't have any extraneous dashes or spaces.
If you have PIP+ and the xml is in the correct folder and as the above code...you can find the three effects in the Video Effects section as 'Brady Bunch Window'...'Brady Bunch Shift'....and 'Brady Bunch Drop'. The Comp A add B xml should also look the same as your code above, but it will be in the 'Transition' listing. Effects are applied directly to a clip, while a transition is between two clips...the comp a add b makes black transparent, therefore you can overlap vids which are positioned by the Brady Bunch effects which position each video. Then you will have to learn how to render out the overlayed vids in sections and then edit them to accomplish the complete effect. There are ways to do this with the least re-importing and saving, but it is best to learn that with the 4 pane Brady effects. Good luck with getting these in the correct place and showing up in MM.

And also remember to always restart Movie Maker AFTER you have added an xml, otherwise it won't recognize it.
