drop shadow

Seems like a lot of photo images these days are displayed with
a drop shadow. Picasa uses a subtle drop shadow, and a number
of TV commercials show photos with some form or another.
Here is a PIP Effect that simulates one by using a pre-made
photoshop image. I don't think it looks too bad .
Here is a sample with various transitions.

I wondered what transition would look best. I tried a PUSH, and a
WIPE and a REVEAL, but perhaps the good ole FADE is best.
I also thought it might really look cool with Rehan's "ZOOM in ZOOM
out" on a white background, but I cannot for the life of me get rid of
the thin black seams around the windows. Maybe I am the only one
who gets those.
Anyway...here is the PIP+ XML code. Just apply this effect to the photo.

Ok...I have altered my dropshadow method a little
and created a effect/transition combo that will allow
you to put the drop shadow over the background of
your choice, including a video clip of course. Here is a sample.
This is a before and after sample, with and without the drop
shadow. I think it provides definition...it "lifts and seperates"
sample
I can provide the XML and image if anyone is interested.

Apply the PIP+ effect to the background video/image
and use the transition to overlay the window with your movie or photo.

It's not working for 2 reasons.
1) It's a PIP Plus Effect, so I think it won't work unless you have downloaded and installed Rehan's PIP Plus package thing.
2) The image that dlk is trying to have people download is on PutFile. You can't download images from putfile so it needs to be shown on a different picture hosting site. Like Photobucket for example. If you right-click save target as.. the png link it will download the PutFile Page and not the image.
What you can do Modify inc, is go the the putfile page, hover over the page, and save the image. You must, however, make sure it is in the name of the image is:
dropshadow
And the location you save the image is:
C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Pictures\dropshadow.png

One more thing. If you are using the second code given by dlk, make sure the image name is
dropshadow2
It won't work without that 2.

That is correct...it needs PIP+, but the demo version should
work even after the trial expires(I think).
Let me know if you still have troubles. I assume it
worked for you Paigesterr?

Uh, actually it doesn't. I don't have PIP +. I think I had the trial version, but it expired and the effect doesn't shows.
I don't know if I did have PIP + plus. It might have been on my other computer, I know i downloaded it so it must be on the other. Tell me, the link to Rehan site is http://www.RehanFX.com, right?

...Oddly I've only just noticed this particular "Showcase forum" - This is the one I should probably been posting to all along!
DLK - I like the stuff you've come up with. I think we have simmilar ideas. I'd strongly suggest you upload your images to a free blog or website to share.
If you already use picassa then www.blogger.com is a good choice as it's integrated with picassas "Hello" - publishing jpeg images is a piece of cake this way.
For publishing the PNG images I use www.imageshack.us and then simply link to the hosted image on my blogger account.
I'm also experimenting by embedding video in to my blog by hosting the vids with www.youtube.com.
The great thing about all of them is ease of use. All HTML code is generated automatically and you then just paste it in to your blog. Blogger has tons of preset templates or you can use your own
They're all free with to use with minimal advertising (imageshack sometimes has a pop up if you use Their generated thumbnail code - otherwise it's absent if you use your own thumbnails)

Hi Al,
I may just take your advice. I have avoided such things in the past,
but perhaps I should take the initiative and get organized. I doubt
the web needs another blog, but I might actually learn something.

Dave - It's got to be done !
creating the blog and posting to it is easy - probably on a par to posting on a forum. The only bit that's a bit more challenging is modifying the template to your exact requirements such as column widths, link fields and that kind of thing. It just involves modifying some html.
I've got a website that I've published to in the traditional way of creating the HTML in a wysiwyg editor (I use the free NVU) and then publishing via FTP. For my purposes however it's overkill and I'd probably get smarter and easier results if I just blog the whole lot - which is what I intend doing !
Anyway I digress. If you do go theGoogle blogger route, and need any assistance, just give me a shout:

I appreciate that offer also, along with everything else you provide
for this group(really goes without saying). I did try taking your suggestion,
and posted something on Pegson's site, but it never showed up and I
never pursued it.
I have also come to think of a lot of my stuff as belonging in the "head shop"
of Transitions and Effects. The kinda place that I used to walk into just
because it was interesting, but I never bought anything. Just never had a need
for incense, bandanas, or roach clips. And a lot of my stuff is overly complex,
trying to do things that were never intended. So I think it serves a small group.
But it might be interesting to see what I come up with on blog.

IF you do go via Google bloggers route and IF you decide to post using Picasas Hello - here's a couple of tips you may want to take on board:
If you wish to post multiple images in a single post with hello you need to finish your text sentence with "||" ( bottom left key - ignore the speech marks.) for instance you may decide to post a pic and decide to add the text "Picture 1||"
This will queue the picture . Repeat the process several times until the last pic then just leave out the "||"
Don't rush Hello when uploading images - wait till the thumbnail image has faded out (indicating it's uploaded) before posting the next image. Rushing posts can overwhelm the program and you can end up with certain pics not being posted (took me a long time to learn that one!)
