I'm trying to figure that out. Apparently Rehan's website (rehanfx.org) has been registered by someone else so the prior links are missing. I'm trying to get in contact with him to find out...

In the meantime, try the Wayback Machine version of Rehanfx.org

I can't guarantee everything will work though. For example, I wouldn't use the Paypal links at this point...

I am having the same problem. I've downloaded the rehansplit.exe file and i get the prompt that says the files were extracted, but i'm not seeing them anywhere. I changed the extraction destination to "C:\Program Files\Movie Maker 2.6\Shared\AddOnTFX" (adding the 2.6 after Movie Maker) but still don't see them.

At first I assumed the process would create the "AddOnTFX" folder, or at least just extract the file(s) in the "Shared" folder, but after seeing that wasn't happening I went ahead and manually created the "AddOnTFX" folder, but there's still nothing there. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Matt

Remember this installer was created long before there were 64-bit versions of Windows or even WMM 2.6, so it is going to install things in unexpected locations.

The thing to do is first find out where it did install the files. Most like it ended up in C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker\Shared

The next thing you need to know is where WMM 2.6 is installed. This is probably
C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker 2.6

Once you find out, just copy the contents of what installed in the first directory and put it into the same Shared folder in the second location. It's important to copy all the subfolders too.

Ok well if the installer has a mind of it's own and is downloading the files to some undisclosed location, that's a whole 'nother issue. It states that it will extract to "C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX" but the problem is:

1. I'm using Movie Maker 2.6. (Ok, so add 2.6 after Movie Maker...)

2. There is no AddOnTFX folder inside the "Shared" folder!!!!! Maybe this is a thing with Windows 7, and it doesn't get created when you download MM 2.6. I don't know, but nobody seemed to point this out except for this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgBOn_xzOJk

Basically, you need to specify a different location to extract the files (other than "C:\Program Files\Movie Maker 2.6..."), go to "C:\Program Files\Movie Maker 2.6\Shared", MANUALLY CREATE the "AddOnTFX" folder, then copy the rehan .xml file to that location, and restart Movie Maker (assuming you already had it open).

Ah, there. I feel much better now. Hopefully that will help someone else having the same issue I had.

AddOnTFX is created by some add-on installers, but if you have to resort to manual steps, then you will have to make it yourself. It's not created as part of the install of Movie Maker.

Incidentally, is there a reason you haven't installed WMM 6.0 instead of WMM 2.6? It has a lot of add-ons as well (view post 126998) including several split screen transitions.

I guess 2.6 was the first version that came up when I searched for it. I wasn't familiar with the versions so I just downloaded the first version I found thinking it would be the most recent. I didn't look into researching it deeply. My company will eventually invest in Adobe Premiere soon, but I just wanted to see what I could do with Movie Maker until then. I will look into 6.0.

Thanks,
Matt

I downloaded 6.0 from the blainesville.com website to try it. Is there a way to adjust the volume of each video clip? In 2.6 there was a separate audio line displayed for each video clip, and you could mute, raise or lower the volume of each clip. With 6.0, at least by default it seems, there's just one block displayed for the video and I don't see a way to adjust the volume for it.

Thanks,
Matt

For others that may be wondering:

1) Select the clip
2) Go to the Clip > Audio menu
3) Pick Volume... or Mute as needed.

The thing is, it's at 100% as imported in 6.0, so the only option is to turn it down. In 2.6 as imported, the volume was (if I remember correctly) somewhere more in the middle, closer to 50 %, so there was an ability to increase or decrease it. Is there a way to extract the audio, bring it into an audio editing software, edit it, and bring it back into WMM?

Yeah, for some reason that's the way it was implemented in WMM 6.0. The ability to increase the volume is in WMM 2.x and also in the newer Movie Maker 2011 and 2012. Since I have Movie Maker 2012 on my computer too, I'd just bring the clip in there, increase the volume and save it back out.

Alternatively, you can use WMM 6.0, put the video on the audio track and save the "movie". That will create a .wma file. Then perhaps you can edit it in Audacity or a similar program and then reimport the sound, muting the original. Seems like a bit of work, so depending on how often you need to do this, choose your method.

Ah, that makes sense. I errored on the side of caution when I set my audio levels while recording.

Thanks again!

I'm having the same problem as mentioned above. After supposedly unzipping the rehansplit.xml, not only isn't the file in the correct folder, it isn't on the computer at all! I've tried unzipping it to several different locations, as well as creating the correct folder myself, all to no avail. Nothing gets unzipped.

This is for MM 6 on Win7.

I'l appreciate any help!

Rehan's splits are packaged in an installer. Run it rather than extracting.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure what you mean. The file located at http://www.rehanfx.org/split_video.htm is an exe file, which when clicked starts an unzip utility to extract the xml file. But as mentioned above the xml file is actually nowhere to be found.

Please confirm the version of Movie Maker that you are using. Is it WMM 2.6?

The instructions given on that page were for Windows XP version 2.1. In that version, Movie Maker is installed in:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker
And custom add-ons go in:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX

But if you are on Windows 7 and have Windows Movie Maker 2.6, the program folder is different. You'll need to specify the actual location of moviemk.exe for WMM 2.6, then the Shared\AddOnTFX path.

This is either:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker 2.6\Shared\AddOnTFX
or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker 2.6\Shared\AddOnTFX

And if you are using WMM 6.0 instead, these instructions do not apply because the referenced splits only work with WMM 2.x. In that case, look at the WMM 6.0 add-on thread (view post 126998) for the splits for WMM 6.0.
