Problem with a Spin effect
Posted: 27 Jul 2005 10:50 AM
Hi
I've uploaded a very small clip to illustrate my problem involving a
spin effect using xml.

Small 124k vid clip

in the first effect seen I'm spinning a static picture of a square
pretty much like a pinwheel effect using a spin video effect.
That works fine and as expected. The custom xml code used for that is :

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="ACO pinwheel" iconid="34" comment="pinwheel">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="right" />
<Param name="ExponentialProgressScale" value="0.5" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

When I then go to
modify the highlighted parameter and use it on the second square :

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="ACO pinwheel flip" iconid="34" comment="pinwheel flip">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="up" />
<Param name="ExponentialProgressScale" value="1" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

I find that I get the desired rotational effect but there is a long gap
in the rotation when it passes through the halfway point.

I've only just started fiddling with xml and the above code is what I
modified from one of Ruzz's effects (BTW thanks!) It's
probably somthing daft I'm doing wrong.
If anyone has a solution, and can come up with a smooth and
consistent rotation I'd be grateful.

Hi Al,

Try this:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="ACO pinwheel flip" iconid="34" comment="pinwheel flip">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="RotateA" value="up" />
<Param name="ShowABack" value="true" />
<Param name="ExponentialProgressScale" value="1" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Nice discovery of RotateA="up" mode there !!! It is otherwise achievable via RevolveCamera parameter.
