Black corners?

Is there an effect that you could use to create this?

I basically want to mask out the four corners with black, but not like a full circle, just like part of the corners! can this be done?!

You could use a Tilte Effect(or PIP+)to overlay a transparent
PNG image. The PNG image would have the corners blacked out
the way you wish. Are you talking straight angles...as on a photo
album or blurry edged corners...for a dreamy look? Either is doable.

It sounds like what you want is to freeze the circle transition at 85% progress so that you see your video, but then with four rounded corners. This is very doable.

1) Copy the following code into Notepad.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{DE75D012-7A65-11D2-8CEA-00A0C9441E20}">
<Transition name="SPLIT: Circle corners" iconid="5">
<Param name="MaskNum" value="119" />
<Param name="Progress" value="0.85" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

2) Save it as splitcorner.xml in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX. If you don't have the directory, create it.

3) Restart Movie Maker

Using the new 'SPLIT: Circle corners' transition
1) Import a black screen (you'll have to create this in your favorite image editing program).

2) Put these on your timeline as follows:
- Black image
- Your video clip

3) Stretch the length of the black image to be as long (or longer) than your video clip.

4) Put the 'SPLIT: Circle corners' transition between the two clips.

5) Drag your video clip to the left so that it almost completely covers the black image (don't go too far or it will move to the other side. If this happens, just press Ctrl+Z for undo).

You will get a little extra black before and/or after your clip, but you should be able to trim this out. Also, you can play with the value of Progress above if you want to make the circle bigger or smaller (which will inversely affect the size of the corners). I thought 85% was good, but if you want smaller corners try 90%, or if you want bigger corners, try 80%. (Obviously this number is a decimal number 0.0 to 1.0 so 85% is 0.85).

Hi!

I want to add this kind of effect to my film. I tried this many times but without success. I did everything according to the instructions. When I open the Movie maker and try to apply transitions I can only find the default ones, but not the 'SPLIT: Circle corners' transition.

I'm using Windows Vista and Movie Maker 6.0. Does this work only with older versions? Does it matter if my Windows is not English version? When I created the AddOnTFX folder, my computer complained somethin about admin rights even though I'm the admin. Anyway, I was able to create this folder after a little struggle.

I know this is an old thread but I hope someone is still reading my post and can help me. Thanks!

You are on Windows Movie Maker 6.0 (Vista) and this is for Windows Movie Maker 2.x (XP). You want to be using transitions and effects only for WMM 6.0 which can be found here:

The one closest to this would be the Vignette Effects.
