Pealing away the wrapper
Posted: 22 Jun 2005 12:19 AM
I have been trying to figure out how to do this one for months...
after watching those Clariton commercials, or whatever
allergy medicine it was. I had given up, but then I came across
this idea by accident. I am not sure it's useful, and I don't
think I have color of the film quite right...but you can have
any shade you want...red, blue, green,yellow.

film
So....add your photo to the project, then add a blank title for
the color you wish to use. I used 50,50,20(decimal RGB).
Then you need to add this effect to your blank title page.
(remove the FadeStartA if you don't want it to fade away)

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{B4DC8DD9-2CC1-4081-9B2B-20D7030234EF}">
<Effect name="Page Curl" iconid="33" comment="Ease In">
<Param name="InternalName" value="Simple3D" />
<Param name="ScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="InitialScaleA" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ShowABack" value="true" />
<Param name="PageCurlA" value="lowerright" />
<Param name="FadeStartA" value="0.9" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

That will cause your color page to page curl to black.
Then use the compositor transition to transition it with
your photo on the timeline.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{9A43A844-0831-11D1-817F-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition name="Comp A add B" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_A_ADD_B">
<Param name="Function" value="9" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

I added the white border to enhance the curl. You can do the same,
or do your own thing of course. There are many ways to create
a white border(PIP+, Pixelan effects, Photoshop image)
Hope someone finds this useful.

Ach! I meant peeling of course. Unless I could add the
sound of bells to my clip, so I wouldn't look so foolish.
Anyway...it was late.

hey I liked that....what if you went the other way...from dark photo to lite...and had the sun rising up on the photo as the liteness appeared in the peal(bells...I hear bells)

Cuss, act rude... be ungrateful....go ahead, make my day!

Well, then you would have to change things around a bit.
You would want to use this A subt B...to make it dark,
and use the RGB color 128 128 128(maybe)

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{9A43A844-0831-11D1-817F-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition name="Comp A add B" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_A_ADD_B">
<Param name="Function" value="9" />
</Transition>
<Transition name="Comp A subt B" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_A_MINUS_B">
<Param name="Function" value="8" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Then you may want to change the corner where the peel starts,
add your sun on a second pass and you would get something like this

peal
