You could use the 50% transparency transition,
and then transition the clip with itself(staggered slightly)
It will get one twin following the other, but they will
both be ghost like. So...perhaps, if you are walking say
from left to right, you could try the "wipe narrow right"
transition, staggered slightly again. That will logically
shift how the screen is shared from left to right, so as your
1st image moves to the right...he needs less of the screen,
leaving screen room for your doppelgänger. Not sure it
will work perfectly, but you could try it.

Yes...the wipe transition will work.
I used the moving logo file I created yesterday,
and gave it a twin. Here is what it looks like.

twins

I did use this super narrow version of the wipe

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{AF279B30-86EB-11D1-81BF-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition iconid="55" name="Super narrow Wipe-right">
<Param name="GradientSize" value="0.01" />
<Param name="wipeStyle" value="0" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>

now...let me see what I can do with a real person
Oh Sam!

Ok...I called in the top talent at my studios,
and this is what we came up with.

twins2

Overproduced for sure. And one tip, don't have
the actor stop... that makes things very difficult.

I guess what we have here is a failure to communicate.
You don't want a twin, you want an echo or reverberation.
You said 1 second after.... a slow walking guy moves halfway
across the screen in 1 second. You want the image to be
maybe 2 or 3 frames behind. I don't think the composite
transition is the right tool for the job. Try one of these.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{16B280C5-EE70-11D1-9066-00C04FD9189D}">
<Transition name="Translucent 0.8" iconid="12" >
<Param name="Progress" value="0.8" />
</Transition>
<Transition name="Translucent 0.5" iconid="12" >
<Param name="Progress" value="0.5" />
</Transition>
<Transition name="Translucent 0.35" iconid="12" >
<Param name="Progress" value="0.35" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

hope I got it right this time

It's a bit difficult to perform.

Howto 1 (see both faces, sitting next to each other):
Make a scenario of what you want to discuss with your "twin".
Make sure to time everything! Very important!
Use a tripod (correct word?) and put your camera on it.
Make the scenario so that you use a room in your house and put on the lights. (Don't film with a window in the back!)

Get in front of the camera and film, part 1, person A, do his dialogs and respect the time (use a big clock so you can watch it without focusing much to it).
After that, put everything back the way it was (if it's your first time, don't use any requisits in the movie), and sit where person B needs to sit and talk. Record person B's dialogs and also respect the time.

Save each person in a "clip". Person A en Person B. Put them in the timeline and use a transition from above. Synchronise where necessery (mostly the start of the film)

Howto 2 (twins sitting face to face):
Make a scenario of what you want to discuss with your "twin".
Find a person with the same hair/haircut as you and about same length as you.
Make sure to time everything! Very important!

Make the scenario so that you use a room in your house and put on the lights. (Don't film with a window in the back!)

Put yourself on a side of a table and let your "twin" take place on the other side of the table.
Place the camera (on a tripod) behind your "twin" and make it look over his shoulder.
Get in front of the camera and film, part 1, person A, do his dialogs and respect the time (use a big clock so you can watch it without focusing much to it).
After that, put everything back the way it was (if it's your first time, don't use any requisits in the movie), and switch places, place the camera again behind your "twin" and make it look over his shoulder (modification in position is allowed). Record person B's dialogs and also respect the time.

Save multiple clips of each person. "Cut and paste to make a discussion".

Are you going for something like the video shown in the following post?
view post 17101

If so, you can accomplish that with a "Split Video" transition.
view post 14510

Put your camera on a tripod, and record with the person on the left side of the screen. Next do the same with the person on the right side of the screen.

Note: as mentioned above, you'll obviously want to try and time the scene or find a way to playback the original recording as you do the second clip. For example, you could have the first video playing off-camera, or you could have the audio being played in the ear of the actor as you record. If it gets a little off, you can probably fix it with editing, but it is easier to get it right the first time.

Now, assuming you have the two clips, and you have downloaded the Split Video transitions from Rehan's website (view post 14510), do the following:

1) Put your Left Clip on the timeline, followed by the Right Clip.
2) Drag the "SPLIT: Vertical Soft" transition between the two.
3) Now Drag the Right Clip so it overlaps the Left Clip as much as possible. (You can't go all the way, otherwise it will move the Right Clip in front of the Left Clip).

When it plays back you should see the left side of the Left Clip and the right side of the Right Clip playing at the same time. The seam between the two clips should hopefully be unnoticeable, but that is why it is important to use the tripod so that the alignment is exactly the same.

Hi dlk,

I tried this xml code and it's not in MM... Is it right?

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{AF279B30-86EB-11D1-81BF-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition iconid="55" name="Super narrow Wipe-right">
<Param name="GradientSize" value="0.01" />
<Param name="wipeStyle" value="0" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>

Nice job with the twins........It's going to up the grocery bill though!

Thank you
bigfish

It needs closing tags for </Transitions> and </TransitionsAndEffects> so the corrected code would be:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{AF279B30-86EB-11D1-81BF-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition iconid="55" name="Super narrow Wipe-right">
<Param name="GradientSize" value="0.01" />
<Param name="wipeStyle" value="0" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Blaine,

Thanks... It looks so obvious when someone else does it.....I've been working on the xml thing but my mind is not wired for it ..... I can cut perfect angles with a skilsaw, make a wonderful chocolate souffle and rebuild a car engine but the coding stuff makes me crazy....

Thanks to you and dlk and all the others that do the effects here on the forum I can really play with Movie Maker.
I can't share the effects but I like to share my projects. Ill make something cool with dlk's Idea of the twins.

Thanks again
bigfish.
