Can someone please help me?
Posted: 16 Nov 2008 01:38 PM
Hey guys, can someone help me out? I'm trying to finish a video by December 1st, but WMM isn't cooperating at all. It freezes during creating clips while importing a video, it wont save a movie, saying there's no space, when I bloody have 49GB, and if it DOES import, the video will play a little, but the screen will freeze on a certain spot while the sound keeps going. I've tried everything from updates, reinstalling, codecs, the works. Can someone please help me fix movie maker?

If it lets me save the movie, it freezes at 68%, and the Minutes remaining starts going up, and it just stays that way.

are you using any mp3 audio files...if so....convert to .wma or .wav.

If you used a lot of transitions or effects in your project...you might try deviding up your project into a couple of smaller sections....saving as movies files...and then putting them all back together for one big save.

Make sure you reboot before each edit session and you close all prorgrams and processes running in the background...close from Task Manager...but, don't close any of the Windows System stuff...if in doubt...leave it alone.

Cuss, act rude... be ungrateful....go ahead, make my day!

check my website's Problem Solving > Can't Save a Movie page.... even with wmv source files, it could be a codec issue as various ones can be used to make a wmv file...

or it could be the complexity of your project.... or other issues

So...I'm having similar issues with Windows Live Movie Maker Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3538.0513)

I have been saving movies every day since Thanksgiving (New GoPro Hero2).

Last night, I re-edited my first video down from 15 minutes to about 8. I added a couple transitions and a few captions. Now, when I try to "save movie" as 1080 or any other setting, it freezes at either 34 or 35%.

I just removed all transitions, to no avail. Same issue. I've changed my project name, moved my source videos folder, reformatted that drive, and moved my source data back to the original spot.

I'm stumped.

Ok, also, everything's in one folder F:\GoProVids\Session 11-24-2011\

I have 12 gigs of RAM and dual quad core procs.

I don't remember the source file format on GoPro Video. I'm assuming it isn't .wmv format. If you find you can't save a project, the most likely culprits are:
1) WMM doesn't like the video file type (try converting to .wmv)
2) WMM doesn't like the audio file type (try converting to .wma)
3) The project is too complex with lots of still photos or numerous effects and transitions.

For #1 and #2, try Freemake Video / Audio Converters (free downloads).
For #3, split your project into smaller sub-projects.

I just downloaded a test file (1920x1080 MP4) from vimeo.... uploaded by someone who uses the GoPro 2.

It worked fine in my WLMM 2011 on a 64 bit laptop without conversion... I'd expect it to convert well with Freemake for users who can't do it directly.

I'll be getting one of those camcorders for Christmas and was curious about the file type and how it would work in Movie Maker.

It's MP4. But I've done five or six videos on WLMM without issue.
For example - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtVkCJGoQwQ

I just, as a test, cut half of my project out, killed all captions and other text, removed all transitions....and I"m still having the error.

FML, this sucks.

I can save the project fine....It just won't let me render it to video.......for this project.

I'm going to try making a new one, just for grins.

Hmm... I just noticed something VERY strange....all of the videos in that folder have changed to AVI. Could that be part of the problem?

Ok, I just took the first to videos in the folder, (Both AVI), created a project and was able to save the movie 100%.

What's going on????

More info:

I just looked and there were two .tmp files in the source folder from last night. THere are also two other files, one an SFK, the other SFAP0 file.

I had opened Sony Vegas at one point, which might have created the two latter files. I'm wondering if the .tmp files were part of the problem.

I am saving the movie, from the full project, now....it's at 35%........FROZEN AGAIN!!!!!

I know WLMM should be able to edit and save an .mp4 file, but often times you'll get the exact symptoms you are seeing. As a test, I would take one of the smaller .mp4 files. Try a quick project in WLMM with the .mp4. Then try the same with that file converted to .wmv.

I know it take a little time to convert a file, but I'd rather have a file type I *know* works, than to get frustrated by another file type not saving after a couple hours of editing. I'd save myself the headache and convert to .wmv.

CG, apparently these are AVI....CineForm must have converted them. This was my first GoPro project....so didn't really know what I was doing.

Anyway, I already created a 15 minute video, using WLMM, with the same source footage. I also just created a two minuter with the first two movies in the folder (See above) and it worked fine.
