Rendering is Slow
Posted: 09 Nov 2008 02:38 PM
I felt that Windows Live Movie Maker is pretty slow at rendering a movie.

To quantify it, I just recorded a 49 minute TV show segment using Media Center on my Vista Ultimate system, imported the clip to both Windows Live Movie Maker and MM6.

I'm having Windows Live Movie Maker render it to a DVD quality file on the hard drive, and MM6 making a DV-AVI file.... they are chugging along in parallel using the same source file.

They both started more than 1-1/2 hours ago. At this point, MM6 is 72% finished and Windows Live Movie Maker is 15%.

MM6 is using about 30% of my CPU and Live Movie Maker beta about 55%

MM6 finished the DV-AVI file hours ago.... it looked good. Windows Live Movie Maker is up to 85% complete at the 6-1/2 hour point.... chugging along fine, just slowly.

Considering it's a 49 minutes and you're exporting it as DVD quality, then of course it's going to be slow!

You're lucky, I have a slow time (on any video editor) on video's that are just 5-10 minutes long.

Well I have been trying for a while to add in new ones, but it just crashes, you can however tweak the current ones. I did a little write up on this thread. Its the 4'th to the last post.

Hi...
Because WMM is a resource pig. You could have four gigs of RAM and it would still run slow. It's the software, not the operator or the computer.... Thanks for sharing the post...

yes it is definitely slow. I was about to make a video that was 43 minutes long a tv recording. It took live maker 10 minutes to get to 1% possibly longer. It they are even going backwards with rendering time?
