Effects/Transistions? Posted: 14 Jun 2005 10:20 PM |
I tell you what people need to do..
Need to stop making those $tupid Transitions and start making More Video effects, video filters, stuff like that for those people who cant run programs, like Video Vegas, Adobe Premiere, and othe SOny products..
I was really only looking for a program with Lots of Video Effects ( preferably FX) and a easy way to put them into the video.. AND NOT MAKE THEM LAST THRUOUT THE ENTIRE VIDEO..
I mean..
How hard can it be, i have Cyberlink Powerdirector 3 and it has the EASIEST way to Time your Video effects.. on the other hand it only has like 12-13 of the Gaye$t Video effects ever.
So what some people need to do is make ONLY VIDEO EFFECTS AND FILTERS for programs like..
Windows Movie Maker..
Cyberlink Power director 2 and 3..
and some of the more Non-Popular ones..
The only reason i am steaming out here, is because i have a small Game video that i recorded and i wanted to put some cool Video effects in it ( NOT TRANSISTIONS) but when i drag a effect into it, it last thru out the entier video.. THATS NOT WHAT I WANTED..
i looked thru the help file.. tried to figure out how to do it properly.. but they put some Jibberish on thier that i cant understand.. need to put Pictures or maybe even a video of how to do it for those people who suffer from CRS disease ( Cant remember Squat)...
Just had to blow off some steam.. been holding in for a loooong time.
I aucutally use WMM 2 do really well with it, but not near enough Video effects
(e.g) <---> Lightning, SMoke, Particules, fire, rain.. cool stuff like that.

I would tend to agree.
I always keep trying to use some transitions, but most end up looking cheesy. IMHO much of the time the use of a lot of transitions just makes movies look amateurish. Unless the transition calls for a cool transition effect, I tend to do very simple ones anyway.
But then again my opinion. YMMV

I will take the Papajohn approach: ignore the noise and
treat you with more respect than you have so far earned.
Let's just try to address your problem.
You say:
"when i drag a effect into it, it last thru out the entier video..
THATS NOT WHAT I WANTED.."
From the timeline view, cut the clip where you want the effect
to start, then cut the clip where you wish the effect to end.
You should now have 3 clips on your timeline. before-key-after
Now apply your effect to the "key" clip. Simple as that.
And if you have a specific effect you wish to see, simply ask.
It might be impossible, but I don't think anyone is holding out on us

Ok...still trying to get you to specify what you want.
I understand you wanted to vent, but what effect were you
trying to apply in the other editing programs, that you would
like to see in MM2?

Fair enough. You did make that general statement.
I will be looking for the premiere of your latest movie:
"Where there's Smoke there's Fire....
The Cool Adventures of Mr. Lightning and Mrs. Rain"
dlk
Actually, I think many of those can be done with a transition.

There have been several posts on creating effects like lightning, rain, smoke, etc. Just do a search and check out the "Share Your Effects/Transitions" forum, too. Most of them involve overlaying a video track of the effect and compositing it with the underlying track.
In addition, if you really are into effects, you probably want to look into a 3rd-party product like Particle Illusion or the like. WMM2 is a pretty basic editor and certainly has more transitions and effects per dollar paid than a lot of the other editors. I also have Pinnacle Studios Plus 9.0 but I get annoyed because most of the "neat" effects and transitions are locked up and they want you to pay an additional fee to use.
I still don't understand your comment about "effects having to be applied to the whole movie". I haven't seen that being the case in Movie Maker or Pinnacle Studios. And since this is a WMM forum, I too had assumed that you meant WMM was deficient in this respect, so I wouldn't be so hard on dlk who was trying to be helpful.

Blaine, im not trying to be hard on dlk..
i guess what i am trying to say, is that everytime i open up like the demo to SOny vegas 4 or 6, i Import the movie , drag it into the timeline, go to "videoFX" effects, and pick one and drag it to the video.. But it last thru out th entire video, i have tried to read the help on Video effects, but it is way to difficult for me to understand, i might only want the effect to last 20 seconds during a certain part of the movie.. I guess i am studpid in that way.. i need Pictures or a video showing me how to do it...
I have no problems with WMM at all..
