More Subtle Titles
Posted: 04 Jun 2005 09:21 PM
Hi, I was sick of having subtle text in my movie creations that just appeared and disapeared.

So I came up with these titles, based on the non subtle text effects.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Subtle Stretch" iconid="13">
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Subtle, Stretches together"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="EntranceZoom" value="10.0 0.81"/>
<Param name="MainZoom" value="1.1 1.2"/>
<Param name="ExitZoom" value="10.0 0.81"/>
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Bottom"/>
<Param name="FontSize" value="18"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
<Title name="Fading Subtitle" iconid="13">
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Fading Subtitle at bottom (overlay)"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="0.4"/>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.4"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="Outline"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.4 0.8 0.45"/>
<Param name="FontSize" value="18"/>
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="256"/>
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Bottom"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
<Title name="Low Fading Subtitle" iconid="13">
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard"/>
<Param name="Description" value="Fading Subtitle at the very bottom (overlay)"/>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="0.4"/>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="0.4"/>
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade"/>
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="Outline"/>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.5 0.8 0.45"/>
<Param name="FontSize" value="18"/>
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="256"/>
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Bottom"/>
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

That arent that flash, but they do their job

marquisite,

Your titles are exactly what i've been looking for! Well Done!

(Also, When you say subtle, did you mean to say subtitle?)

How would I get that to MM2? I put it in notebook and saved it to the file that I saved all of my other stuff to. Everything else has worked for me, but this one hasn't.

Did you save it as a separate file, or did you incorporate it in another existing script? Try putting it in an .xml file of its own (e.g. subtitle.xml) in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX.

I know this has been posted some time ago, but I just came across it today. I love these effects but I was wondering if it is possible to add a zoom to the effect? If so, can someone explain to me how?

For full details on editing a title, you can go to Rehan's website. However, since you may not want to read through all that, I'll see if I can explain the process of adding a zoom to your title. First off, you'll need to add some new lines to the title .xml that you want the zoom added to. These lines (or parameters) may already be in the title; if so, don't add them; all you'll have to do is change some number values. Here they are:

<Param name="EntranceZoom" value="10.0 10.0"/>
<Param name="MainZoom" value="1.0 1.0"/>
<Param name="ExitZoom" value="10.0 10.0"/>

When the value in the three parameters above is set to "1.0 1.0" the text is normal size. When the numbers are larger than 1.0 the text will be bigger; numbers less than 1.0 will be smaller. To acclomplish the zoom, you'll have to go from one value to the next. In the three lines above, I have the EntranceZoom set to 10.0 and the MainZoom set to 1.0. That means that between the entrance and the main part of the title animation the text will go from ten times its original size back down to its normal size. Now notice that I have the ExitZoom set to 10.0. A title set to these three zooms will go from huge to normal back to huge: I've hear this called a "bounce" zoom. Of course, you can also set the zoom smaller than 1.0. You could use, say, "0.05 0.05". That's about one twentieth of its normal size.

Why don't you try changing the values on the title below and see what you can come up with?

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="My Zoom Title" iconid="13" >
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleStandard" />
<Param name="Description" value="zooms" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Param name="MainEffect" value="EffectNone" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="2.0" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="2.0" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.5 0.5" />
<Param name="MainPosition" value="0.5 0.5" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.5 0.5" />
<Param name="EntranceZoom" value="10.0 10.0" />
<Param name="MainZoom" value="1.0 1.0" />
<Param name="ExitZoom" value="10.0 10.0" />

<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="Shadow" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

It can really be anything you like, as long as it ends with .xml so these could be moresubtitles.xml or rubberbabybuggybumpers.xml or anynameyoulike.xml

You may have reinstalled or repair-installed Microsoft .NET Framework 3, which contains MovieMaker. It would have overwritten the existing folder. That's how I lost all MY titles!

Keep a backup copy of your MovieMaker folder from now on.

I copied and pasted this file into the right folder under the title "subtitle.xml"

Unfortunately I can't actually find the custom subtitles anywhere in the titles section. Have I do something wrong? And these are usable for Movie Maker 6.0, I am right there aren't I?

One hint: if the XML starts with version 1.0, it will be for the XP version. Only XML with a starting version of 2.8 will work in WMM 6.0. The best place to go for custom titles for WMM -- view post 126998
