Nuke white light on blue screen....attn Bigfish and Dlk Posted: 12 May 2005 05:47 PM |
I've got something for you guys to try out. Since I do not know how to do that blue screen overlay stuff....but you guys do.....and I don't need to....because PI will let me do it right on the clips....but so much for that....
This starts out with the blue screen...then a flash...like a nuke just droped...everything goes white....then the light reverses back on itself back to blue screen. Let me know if you find a good use for it. Hey Fish....maybe your next Pizza cooking movie? You blew up a city with the Jackhammer....maybe you can Nuke the state with your cooking....lol.

Edit: This clip can now be found on TheClipArchive.com on Katho's page, called 'nukeme.avi'. |

Thanks for the effort, but it just doesn't key well.
Things that work well have crisp defined edges,
like those smiley faces. Here is what you get.

Oh well, it was worth a try....I guess I'll have to blow up Bigfish's kitchen myself....lol.
I'll keep an eye out for something with sharp edges. Why do we say..."keep an eye out"???
Looks like that would not only not look very good...but seems like it would hurt? hmmmm |

Dave here is an effect for you to compose katho's effect over the picture of your cup:
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{9A43A844-0831-11D1-817F-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition name="Comp A add B" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_A_ADD_B">
<Param name="Function" value="9" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>
As usual copy paste into notepad and save as add.xml extension in folder C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX folder. Create the AddOnTFX folder if not there. Restart WMM.
Requires the effects like the nuke effect katho did to be made with black background... but for the current one we can just apply the Grayscale effect. Here is the result. |

Interesting.
So what would happen if Kathyo did grey fog on a black background?
Could you get the fog effect like Adorage can do?

DLK...here's a couple of foggy type clips I made for you to try out. One was originally a dust storm...but I changed the color(I just figured out how to do that)
and slowed it down a hair so it would look more foggy.

Rehan,
Can you explain the XML code above and how to use it? I created the transition (XML) just as shown above in the AddOnTFX. It now shows up as a new video transition.
So to use it, I put my static clip on the timeline, then the blast clip from Kathy, then another static clip. I put the transition before and after the blast clip. This seemed to work for the first half of the blast where the blast was composited over the clip. However for the second transition, it didn't work. I assume it is because the static clip is trying to be composited over the blast rather than the other way around.
So how did you make it work? Is there another way to overlay her effect on the static clip?

Actually, I think I figured it out by dragging the blast clip completely over the first clip so that it did all the compositing first.
However, I still would like to know how to use the transition over two pieces of video. For example, I have one clip of a guy pressing a button, and another of him covered in soot and everything in disarray. I want to do a transition from the first scene to the blast video (using the A add B composite transition), and then halfway through I want to transition to the second scene (using the opposite B add A composite). How would I create the opposite composite?
And for future reference, where would I look for a FAQ on interpreting/creating my own transitions via XML? For example, how did you know to use Function = 9 and that GUID?

Blaine,
I think you just have to do this in two passes. Combine your
2 clips(button and soot) into one movie. Also make a 2nd
version of the nuke clip with more blue at the end.
Then import those 2 clips and transition them together, so that
the blast is over the joined area of your original clips.
Keep in mind that MM2 has one big limitation(IMHO).... it
only has one video track. Otherwise...you could put your
2 clips running continuosly on one video track, and the nuke
clip running on the 2nd track, and transition it right over the top.
Anyway...I don't think there is an easier way in MM2.

I think I answered my own questions... I looked at the registry and found out the GUID that Rehan used pointed to the DirectX Image Transformation object. I did a search for DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Compositor and found the following page.
Microsoft Visual Filters and Transitions Reference
If you click on the link for Compositor and then Functions you'll see that "A add B" is function 9 and "B add A" is function 25.
The updated XML code is:
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{9A43A844-0831-11D1-817F-0000F87557DB}" >
<Transition name="Comp A add B" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_A_ADD_B">
<Param name="Function" value="9" />
</Transition>
<Transition name="Comp B add A" iconid="0" comment="DXCOMPFUNC_B_ADD_A">
<Param name="Function" value="25" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>
I was then able to put clip 1, A-B transition, blast avi, B-A transition, clip 2 and it worked. The only problem I noticed was that the sound got quieter at the start of the blast. I think WMM is trying to blend the sound tracks of the two clips and the blast avi doesn't have one so it just gets softer.

Ok...I see now what your propem was.
I thought you couldn't get the 2nd clip close enough
to the 1st clip...to make it look smooth...But the
problem was that the transition didn't work the same
when the nuke clip was 1st. Glad to see you worked it out.

It is hard to get the clips close enough but I did it as follows:
1) Add the clips to the timeline (1st, blast, 2nd)
2) Apply grayscale to the blast clip
3) Add the A-B transition between 1st and blast.
4) Add the B-A transition between blast and 2nd.
5) Drag 2nd clip to the middle of the blast clip.
6) Drag blast clip further into 1st clip until clips 1 & 2 meet.
I'm still working on the sound drop however. I think I'll need to add a sound track to the blast.avi to make it work.

Blaine well done for your invetigative work!!! I was going to suggest to use normal Blend for the 2nd part but yours (B_ADD_A) works better.
The audio is best done completely seperately... jus tmute the audio in the video channel and ctrl-drag the clip to music channel for independent audio. |
