Layered moving titles help
Posted: 24 May 2005 07:34 PM
Hi,

I like the moving titles effect but was wondering if there was a way that I could I have one main word in the centre, and then the scrolling, transparent words saying something different?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum JuJu

Thanks for an interesting question.

Put the XML below in
"C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\moving titles layered different.xml"
Restart MM and you'll find the new title "Moving Titles, Layered Different Background"
The trick here was to take the existing title and move the first paragraph off-screen.
I also modified the second paragraph to have no delay and be of variable size.
So the first paragraph is your large transparent background text
The second paragraph is your smaller foreground text.

G'day beunona65 & welcome to the forum
You copy the XML code and paste it into your favourite text editor and save it a file called
"C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\moving titles layered different.xml"

If the directory doesn't exist, just create it.
This assumes your system drive is drive C.

Glow,

I saw this posted many months ago but didn't realize what it was at the time... I like it! I never thought to apply the effect to a single paragraph to make the two text lines independent.

Have you added the folder "addontfx"? have you saved xml as and "all files" not a txt file? have you restarted Wmm? Have you looked under tools>titles and credits ? Sorry for all the questions but it has to be done right for it to work. It can be confusing! it is hard at first but becomes easier with experience and use! When you get it working it is Awesome! Hang in there you will have it working in no-time! Take care! tt

G'day HeisOne

Did you know that you can overlap titles on the title track (or on the video track)?
This can be easier than trying to create a new XML file combining two titles.
So if you have title like the above one, you could make the foreground text a blank leaving just the background text in large transparent letters. Then you could add a second title like the ticker tape and just drag it over the top of the first title.

Of course if you really want to put everything into one title this is also possible.
The modification I made was to change the second paragraph so that the EntrancePosition was to the right off-screen and the ExitPosition was to the left off-screen which creates the right-to-left scrolling. I pinched the parameter values from the built-in ticker tape title.

I then swapped the Entrance and Exit positions to scroll the other way.Tongue out

Hi glow thanks so much that looks cool I will use this effect in my next project.

The thing is what I need for my current project is slightly different, I mentioned this another thread but didn't make myself clear in this thread, that's my fault my apologies.

What I wanted was the foreground text to start inside the screen (on the left side) and to move towards the right, at a slow speed similar to the speed that the lower text in the background moves, if you could tell me what to add/change, that would be great.

Try adjusting the first coordinate in each of EntrancePosition and ExitPosition.
The value I pinched from the ticker tape were off-screen (less than 0 or greater than 1).
With the L-R one, try using something like this

<Param name="ExitPosition" value="1.0 0.5" />
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.0 0.5" />

Hi glow I tried those values, it causes the last letter to start within the screen not the first, this would be ok for the R-L but I need the (full) text to start within the screen using the L-R..

Also what can I do to slow down the speed?

Hi HeisOne

Have you tried adjusting the values yourself?
e.g. if you move the Entrance Position x-coordinate in a bit like 0.3 and then take a bit off the ExitPosition.
<Param name="EntrancePosition" value="0.3 0.5" />
<Param name="ExitPosition" value="0.7 0.5" />

Since the text will have less distance to travel in the same time, it will automatically move slower.
Yuu can also alter the position by changing the horizontal justification with the normal user interface i.e. by default it's centred but you can make it left or right justified.

Hi glow yes I did try adjusting the values before but it caused the text to stop moving for some reason, so I tried the values you posted above and it was still not quite what I needed, so I adjusted the Entrance to 0.4 0.5 and the Exit to 0.6 0.5 and the text starts within the screen and its much slower, now all three lines of text move at different speeds, thanks a lot for your help.

I have already tried the justification but as I have two lines of text it looks untidy if I select left or right, it only looks good when centered.

Btw I was playing with the other values, if you swap the numbers around eg Entrance 0.5 0.4 and Exit 0.5 0.6 then the text falls from top to bottom instead scrolling left to right, it looks pretty cool.
