Metacreations Transitions
Posted: 20 Jun 2004 04:19 PM
I have been working on these transitions for a while. These are the transitions which were released as demo with DirectX 6, five or six years ago. These were aimed at enhancing web sites but were too expensive for the standard pc of those times. The compnay (Metacreations) went out of business!

Nevertheless, some of these are way too cool and ideal for use with Movie Maker... On todays PCs they fly like bird...

Download the xml from here. Put it in your "C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX" folder as usual.

Since these were part of an old release of DirectX, the later downloads particularly IE5.5 sort of disables the relevant DLLs from the computer. You may have to refresh those DLLs from here if that is the case with your PC. Please report back with success or failure as I am not sure whether it will work.

You will see the metacreations logo when the transitions are played. Though I have the necessary knwledge to remove the logo but am not sure about legality of the issue. I am having considerable difficulty in resolving the issue since the company is no more and their supposed successors (Viewpoint) have replied to my inquiry denying any knowledge of these Transitions !!

those are great transitions. but they're useless to me without removing the metacreations logo. does anyone else know how to remove them?

rehan, if one were wanting to remove the logo would you be able to explain the process? not that i'm going to remove them from the metacrations trans. i'm just curious of the steps needed to achieve this.

Hi Silla

This particular issue remains the same as the components are not maintained or fixed by microsoft anymore.

If you want to try these please heed the warning on the webpage (http://www.rehanfx.org/metacreations.htm) and enable System Restore.

Btw, there are no watermarks anymore.

Hi Rehan

I stumbled upon some more Metacreations transitions when I happened to be looking at the transitions XML file in Microsoft Producer
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Producer 2\1033\TransFX.xml

<Exclude guid="{107045CC-06E0-11D2-8D6D-00C04F8EF8E0}" comment="Transition - MetaCreations Fade White (no license)" />
<Exclude guid="{2A54C904-07AA-11D2-8D6D-00C04F8EF8E0}" comment="Transition - MetaCreations Jaws (no license)" />
<Exclude guid="{AA0D4D10-06A3-11D2-8F98-00C04FB92EB7}" comment="Transition - MetaCreations Peel ABCD (no license)" />

Looks like they weren't sure if they could use them but kindly provided the guids anyway Smiley

Following the syntax in your pack, I tried them with the XML below and they appear to work although the Peel ABCD looks odd - perhaps there are some other parameters.
I don't know if you knew about these but for completeness you might like to add these to your collection with a suitable icon.

Others may like to check if any of the other excluded effects from Producer can be used in WMM.

Ironically I rarely use transitions/effects in Producer. Doing so forces a re-encoding and transitions upset the slide timing.

Hi Glow

I am aware of these but I left them out delibrately. (I think my xml has them already but disabled).
In my experiments I also had issues with the peel abcd... so I removed it from spoiling the good impression of the with the others wonderful effects. About Fade White and Jaws I thought these were too trivial and could be done in more generalised way with the other filters.
