is it possible to make this transition http://img74.echo.cx/img74/8489/dsc013341be.jpg where the box with the video inside it spins either left or right and another box with a different video appears on the center screen

1) Close Movie Maker.
2) Copy the following code into Notepad:

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{F088DE73-BDD0-4E3C-81F8-6D32F4FE9D28}" >
<Transition name="Cube rotate" iconid="69" comment="DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Stretch">
<Param name="stretchStyle" value="PUSH" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

3) Save the file as:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\CubeRotate.xml

4) Reopen Movie Maker and you should have a new video transition call Cube rotate

It won't look exactly like your sample in that it won't create the borders of a cube, etc. but it does look like the video is spinning on a cube to the right. Actually what is happening is that the new video is stretching from the left as the old video is being compressed to the right. It is actually a stretch effect called "push" but should be close enough to what you want, with very little effort.

Hey I like that...that's pretty cool. The border might be an easy add on
but I am not sure how it should look. And...after you make the movie,
you could import it back in, and apply this rotate effect to get this.

cube

Oh...sorry. I guess no one asked for that. But I thought it looked cool.

Showoff! smile :-)

Actually your effect is totally cool (uh oh, sounding like a valley girl from the 80s)... I'm going to have to examine it a little bit more. I love all the things I'm learning from the experts on this board.

Blaine,
I have to plead "not guilty" on the expert charge. My only claim
to fame is maybe as an imitator and adaptor(although I would like to
think I maybe came up with one or two things on my own). Guys like
Papa John, Rehan and others have dedicated a lot of time and effort to
this stuff. I just like to play around with it. But I have to believe that this
is a lot of fun for them also. (seems like you have also caught the bug)
I made a lot of my home videos into movies, I made a couple of DVD's
that I sent to the family, I made a couple of small humorous projects,
and now I am just killing time waiting for a good movie idea or project to
come to me(that is the hardest part)
So I am just killing time...getting ideas...throwing out ideas. A true hobby.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{F088DE73-BDD0-4E3C-81F8-6D32F4FE9D28}" >
<Transition name="Cube rotate" iconid="69" comment="DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Stretch">
<Param name="stretchStyle" value="PUSH" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

thank you

I'm afraid still a novice when it comes to transitions, so I don't have a quick answer for that. In the meantime, have you tried the 'Flip' transition, it's not a cube, but it is a 2D piece of paper flipped in 3D space. :-)

You can create a PIP+ effect that adds a border...either a solid
colored border, or an image file that acts as the border. But that
border would compress and stretch as the images do the same. If
you want that, and have PIP+... the PIP+ documentation explains
how to create borders.

Hi, Ok, I just found this and kinda new to this stuff. I did exactly what your directions said, copied and pasted this code, but nothing happened. I put it in the right AddOnTFx file and named it CubeRotate.xml I left it as a text file. Is that right? It's not showing up in my movie maker for XP. I have Movie Maker version 2.1. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for sharing this great transition.

Susan - you do not want to save it as a txt file. Try the following:

1. Copy the XML code and paste it into Notepad
2. In Notepad, Go to the "File" menu and click on "Save As" and then type in "CubeRotate.xml" - NOT - "CubeRotate.xml.txt"
3. Navigate to your AddOnTFX folder (the box labeled "Save In:" at the top of the window should read "AddOnTFX)"
4. In the box that reads "Save As Type", click the down arrow and select "All Files"
5. In the box below "Save As Type" that reads "Encoding", confirm that it reads "ANSI" and then click on "Save"
6. Open Movie Maker and you should now see your CubeRotate transition

teddybearlov101 - which versions of Movie Maker and Windows are you using? The transitions in this thread are for version 2.6 and below of Movie Maker.

Check to make sure you added the transitions to the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker 2.6\Shared\AddOnTFX folder rather than the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX folder.
