Not enough storage available to process this command
Posted: 10 Apr 2007 07:38 PM
When I try to play my movie (still a project file) it will work fine for a little bit, then will stop and a window will come up saying "Not enough storage available to process this command". What does this mean and how can I fix this?

How much memory do you have on your system? How much free space on your hard drive? What operating system?

Try freeing up memory by closing down other applications (including those that may be running in the background) and freeing up space on your hard drive (e..g., by deleting unneeded files and emptying the recycle bin ) and see if that helps any.

There's way more than enough space on my hard drive. Theres about 23 GB on my C drive and the video is only about 45 MB.

There are potential causes besides memory; so let's first make sure that it's the cause of your problem.

How much memory do you have installed on your system? To find out, right click on "My Computer" and then click on "Properties on the pop-up menu. Click on the "General" tab and look at the bottom area of the window to see how many MB's of RAM is installed on your system.

What operating system do you have? You should also find this under the "General" tab.

Do you have Windows XP? If you do, try going to the "Start" menu and right-clicking on "My Computer" and then clicking on "Properties" on the pop-up menu.

Try going to "Start" and clicking on "Control Panel". The next step depends on the Control Panel view option you have selected.

If you have the "Classic view" option selected, then double click on the "System" icon and that should bring up a window that lists the amount of RAM installed on your computer near the bottom of the window.

If you have the "Category view" option selected, click on "Performance and Maintenance" and then click on "See basic information about your computer". That should bring up a window that lists the amount of RAM installed on your computer near the bottom of the window.

Download and run Belarc Advisor (it's a free download); it will provide a detailed report on your system configuration (including the amount of memory on your system).

Hey Neophyte, I've been checking out this forum and I find it extremelly useful.
Anyways...I've been going through the exact same problem; I've already checked the files and I have not moved nor deleted them...
I also followed your posts, and so I checked my RAM memory...I'm using my lap top and it says I got. 0.99 GB...I've been trying to "save as a movie" a file that's about 11.2 mb and it's not letting me...I've no idea what the problem is.
I've already shut all the programs and etc...however, still can't fix it...any suggestions?
Thanks

Bape Boy - Welcome to the forums!

Are you getting an error message that says "Not enough storage available to process this command"? If so, do you get any other info in addition to this message? If not, what does the error message say?

What size hard drive do you have? How much free space is there on your hard drive?

Go to the "Start" menu and click on "Run". Enter "dxdiag" without the quotes in the box and then click on "OK". A window labelled DirectX Diagnostic Tool should now open. Click on the "General" tab and post back with what is listed for "Memory" and "Page File" near the bottom of the window.

Please provide the file types and number of video clips, audio clips and images in your project.

Is this the first time you've run into this problem in MM? What fixes, if any, have you tried?

Neophyte, how's everything? Thanks alot for the fast response.
Ok, I did what you told me to...
I got 1014 MB memory Ram
it says 1003 used...1337 mb still available.
I guess that's what it is right?
Now...I'm doing a "compilation" of videos about 12 of them, however I'm saving it at 218 kbps. which "amounts" to 11.2 MB
What do you suggest to fix the problem? I've closed other programs, uninstalled a few...and still nothing...
I'll be waiting on you suggestion before I make my next move;
Once again,
Thank you very much!

Hello Bape Boy-
Just looking over the thread...
Neophyte will be looking for a answer to this question:
"Not enough storage available to process this command"? from his previous post...
I'll defer for now on Neophytes thread dialog, (to not offend)...he's quite capable.

Ok...I've uninstalled many of my programs, it says I got more RAM memory, yet I still can "save as a movie", I'll restore my system if that's what it takes for me to be able to save this movie.
I also tried uninstalling Movie Maker, and i couldn't...
Is there any converter i can use on a MSWMM file?

The project file does not contain any converter data...it's more of a 'recipe'.
Are you seeing the error message that Neophyte was asking you about?
If not, what message are you getting?
What version of MM are you using? (Help > About > see line 4 > look for 2.0 or 2.1 to be referenced)

Bape Boy - If you're still getting the error message "Not enough storage available to process this command" then try the following. First, make sure your anti-virus definitions are up to date and then run an anti-virus scan on your system. Next, defrag your hard drive ( go to "Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools" and click on "Disk Defragmenter").

If you're still getting the error message after this, then increase the size of your "Virtual Memory" by right clicking on "My Computer" and then clicking on "Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory Change". Set the "Maximum Size" to 2056 MB and record the "Space Available" on your hard drive. Click "OK" as needed to apply the changes.

Post back with the following:
1. Results from the preceding steps - including any error messages and the error message number
2. The "Space Available" on your hard drive
3. The name and version number of the anti-virus program you're running
4. MM version number
5. Version of Windows you're running
6. What you did when you tried to uninstall MM

desi - no need to worry about offending me. The goal is to get Bape Boy's problem resolved as quickly as possible and your input would be welcomed.

No joke...this has to be the nicest forum on the web!
Ok..I just reset my memory to the maximum size which is over 3000 MB...I'm going to Defrag my computer overnight and see if that fixes the problem; I am running on Windows XP, and the MM version is 2.O.
I can't express how happy I am to have joined this forum!
Thank you very much Neophyte and Desi.

Also remember...just closing other programs that you see running...isn't closing all programs running in the background...do a CTRL/ALT/DEL to bring up "Task Manager"...close all programs and "processes" that do not belong to your "Windows System"....if in doubt...leave them alone. (but, for future reference...try to learn what all of those programs and processes do so that you will know if you can close them or not.)

Glad you like our little forum here....we like it to...feel free to move in and put a pool in your backyard...we like new folks in the neighborhood.
