Alter Moving Titles?
Posted: 02 Feb 2008 09:47 AM
I like the Moving Titles and use them often. However, I find that the background text moves so slowly that generally only part of the text becomes visible. Where can I find that code and then how do I change the speed of the background? By the way, I find the same problem with "Moving Titles, Layered Different Background" which I downloaded from here.

The speed of the background text is hard-coded by Microsoft. All you can specify in a custom title is whether you use the multi-title effect (EffectMulti) but there aren't any parameters to modify its behavior. Sorry.

If you want to play with it, here is the code (for XP version 2.x):

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Titles>
<TitleDLL guid="{353359C1-39E1-491b-9951-464FD8AB071C}">
<Title name="Moving Titles, Layered (tester)" iconid="13">
<Param name="InternalName" value="TitleMultiTitles" />
<Param name="Description" value="Transparent overlapping titles" />
<Param name="EntranceDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="ExitDuration" value="1.0" />
<Param name="EntranceEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Param name="ExitEffect" value="EffectFade" />
<Param name="ShadowOutline" value="Shadow" />
<Paragraph>
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.1 0.8 0.5" />
<Param name="MainEffect" value="EffectMulti" />
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Bottom" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="128" />
</Paragraph>
<Paragraph>
<Param name="VerticalAlignment" value="Top" />
<Param name="FontSize" value="20.0" />
<Param name="ProgressDelay" value="0.15" />
<Param name="ProgressDuration" value="0.85" />
<Param name="BoundingRect" value="0.1 0.6 0.8 0.3" />
<Param name="MaxCharacterCount" value="96" />
</Paragraph>
</Title>
</TitleDLL>
</Titles>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Blaine, thanks for the xml to play with. Unfortunately, all the available parameters do nothing about how the background text moves. It seems to me that I would have to have the code for "EffectMulti", whatever and wherever that is. Anyway I learned a lot about the parameters in the xml you gave me.

You can turn on the 'EffectMulti' effect but you can't do anything to modify it, as you have discovered. There is an 'EffectMultiFirstLetter', but it too can't be controlled, it just changes so that the background/foreground ghost titles are of the first letter only.

Too bad -- it would be nice to be able to tweek that text effect. I guess I can stop worrying about it. Thanks for the info.
