Crumple/Pulling Down transition
Posted: 30 Dec 2007 09:38 AM
Hey I was just wondering if anyone can find (or make) a transition which wipes from the top to the bottom of the screen with a crumpling effect - like its a bit of paper... or something similar...

Example found in Britney's new video below (at 22 secs in..):

It doesn't have to be as elaborate as the example... just something remotely similar... it would be greatly appreciated :D :D

Thank you.

Here you go... it's something I like to call "Warp Wipe". It isn't exactly like the video, but it is reminiscent of the transition.

Sample Video:
Warp Wipe Transition

Step 1 -- Download gradient image
1) Go to gradient image link.
2) Right-click and choose to Save the Picture.
3) Save the picture in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX as warpwipefc3.png
If you don't have an AddOnTFX folder, create it with New Folder.

Step 2 -- Copy the XML code
4) Copy/paste the following XML code into Notepad.
5) Save it in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX as warpwipe.xml

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{DE75D012-7A65-11D2-8CEA-00A0C9441E20}">
<Transition name="Warp Wipe" iconid="61" comments="Blaine's Warp Wipe Transition, Post #155794">
<Param name="MaskName" value="C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX\warpwipefc3.png" />
<Param name="BorderColor" value="0x202020" />
<Param name="BorderWidth" value="3" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Step 3 -- Restart Movie Maker
6) Close Movie Maker and start it again.

Step 4 -- Add your clips and the transition
7) Add your clips to the timeline.
8) Optional: I like to lower my transition duration to about 0.75 seconds (Tools > Options > Advanced > Transition Duration) for a faster wipe.
9) Place the 'Warp Wipe' transition between the two clips.

It really wasn't that difficult.

I filled a blank canvas (800 x 600) with a vertical gradient black on top down to white. Then I applied a "wave" effect (vertical applitude 20, wavelength 100, nothing horizontal). Then I trimmed it to 640 x 480 to get rid of any anomalies along the edges.

some fooling around
I just need to know how to blend the color that is what I again do not understand. once you make the image it is modification and many possabilities can come from it. leaving to mallets65's pkg. and BFx pkg
learning alot from just one XML and that is greatly appriciated I see it is more than the XMl html it is the image behind it wit ha photoshop. and i am again amazed.

If you're using the wonderfully-named GIMP, it has a Gradient Fill tool, which can blend colour to make gradients automatically.

I expect a professional program like Photoshop must have a similar option somewhere.

Oops. I meant Paint Shop, not Photoshop.

But I expect they both have it anyway.

Yes PSP has a lot of choices. Fishy, make a new blank image. Choose 'view' 'palettes' and choose 'materials'. When you see it,
check out the choices and click fill properties to get a 'material' window to open and you can see a large number of choices for colors/gradients/textures. After you make your choice, you choose 'flood fill' to apply. Play around with it, and you'll figure it out. Have fun!

I go to view no palettes' are there only palett will be under color and I do this for my transparancy . edit load save st view palette's.

There is no fill propertys

So basically i am back to square one ughhh

now would this be "the mask" that is used with layering

Fishy, here are the steps to get the gradient:

1) New image
2) For colors, select 'white' as foreground, 'black' as background
3) Under 'Styles' pick a gradient (rather than a solid). Use '#1 Foreground-Background'
4) Click the 'Flood Fill' and fill the canvas with the gradient.

I have PaintShop Pro 7. Look on the 'Color Palette' toolbar. There's the picker for foreground and background colors. Then below that are the selections for Styles. Click the arrow to change from solid to gradient. Then click again to select the specific gradient.

You should have color and black and white choices like these below. If you need an older version of the current PSP, check out the site linked below (bottom of the page)....I don't know if they have any limitations or not so keep your old installer. have fun.

Hi Blaine,

I cannot get your "Gradient Image Link" for the "Warp Wipe" transition to open. I looked for that transition on your web site but could not find it there. Where might I find that image?

Thank you.

Hi Blaine,

I got the gradient image. It had appeared "behind" the forum pages. So when I signed off the forum, there it was. It worked well. Thank you for sharing.
