DPL Frame Effects for Shader TFX Posted: 29 Sep 2007 01:55 PM |
This package installs 50+ effects including the Danielle frames for XP modified for Vista, and a few narrow gauge frames that I made and like. Being effects, you can still add titles to the title line while applying these frames as effects to each image or video as desired. One rendering then does all.
DPL Frame Effects for Vista using Shader TFX Big file. ~11 MB - Lotsa PNG's
Also included are some shrink/expand effects. Of particular note is the DPL 100% (shrink?).
You must have ShaderTFX installed and operating unexpired or registered.
The native Frame Effects will all snuggle up to edges of the picture/video and pull away from the edges of the video window. Thus for 4:3 in a 16:9 project, vice versa, or just any random aspect ratio like portrait, the frame will be letterboxed in the video window. As your movie progresses then, the frame will be changing sizes if aspect ratios are intermixed. I like the frame to snuggle out to the video window edges.
Therefore, apply the DPL 100% effect first, then the frame effect. Now the images will be letterboxed inside of the frame cutout. You can crop, shrink, frame etc prior to the 100% effect for different appearances.
In general, the DPL 100% effect letterboxes the image to the view window and can be useful prior to many of the other effects.
Report any problems (or successes) here. I'll be travelling for a week or so, but I'll be back.
Have fun, PatrickL |

If you have Vista with Moviemaker 6.0, and have previously installed Rehan's Shader TFX package, and installed as administrator, you should see 50+ new effects. I have tested on 2 different machines from the download and it seemed OK to me.
Could you post more information so I can determine the problem and maybe the solution? Information expanding on what "dont work" means. e.g. Doesn't show up in effects, shows up but won't play, previews OK but can't add them to a project, can't install, crashes machine, graphics card type etc. Thanks.

If you are on Vista Home or Home Premium and ShaderTFX is installed and working it sounds like the FX file did not get installed in the .../Shared/ folder.
Check C:/Program Files/Movie Maker/Shared/ and see if the DPL OverlayMod2B.fx file is there. If not, you probably need to reinstall with administrator prvileges. Right click on the installer exe file and select "Run as Administrator".
Good Luck and let me know the results, PatrickL |

Baninis133...As most of these guys are basically doing this stuff for the most part for free, I don't think that it's much if they purchase price is $15...I think that Rehan has earned it and no you can't get it for free off the internet...I'm sure Rehan would agree to that. Just think of all the time these guys spend helping us at no charge. I promise its worth the price for all the great things PatrickL has done with the Shader TFX. My hats off to both Patrick and Rehan.

Yes, please, just pay for it. Its a 1 time fee, tons of users on these forums do this on their own time, take the time to post here on the web, for free. The least you can do is pay for ShaderTFX, its well worth it!
Also PatrickL i never got the chance to say, but i really like these effects.

Hi Misti. Good name for Seattle. I grew up in the NW
Could you give me an example of one that works intermittently, and what it looks like when it doesn't work. These effects do require that ShaderTFX be in the unexpired trial period or registered.
ShaderTFX has been pretty reliable for me. The only trouble that I have ever had was with one version of the Video Drivers for my NVIDIA graphics card. Getting a later driver cured my problems. The trouble symptoms were either a totally black screen or half a black screen.

Hey,
i am having problems getting them to work. Rehan's stuff all works fine, but this stuff just gives me a black screen. It should up in the menu as an option, and all the files and masks are there, but it goes black when i put it on the clips. I was reading on other posts that this might be a graphics problem but i have 256 MB dedicated to graphics so that seems unlikely...
thanks

From my wevsite:
Rehan's original ShaderTFX installs properly only on the 32 bit Vista OS. He has now introduced a beta version for the 64 bit Vista. See 64b ShaderTFX.
To use the DPL installers, you must install to the proper Shared folder.
When the installer gets to the "Directory" dialog select or type in the proper path to the Shared folder for your Movie Maker.
Good luck jclupanda, PatrickL

| You know, maybe if Rehan had a special sale on the shadertfx, I might actually go for it, but I personally think $15 is a bit much for some effects in movie maker. |
