DPL PIP Transitions (modified) for Shader TFX Posted: 29 Sep 2007 12:57 PM |
I wanted background color/image for Shader TFX PIP transitions. I see that Rehan included most of the code in his release package, but didn't expose it for now. Being impatient, I finished the code and added background images for my personal use.
Here is a demo. DPL PIP Samples1
You can download the package at DPL PIP Installer
Unzip the download and run the exe installer as administrator.
Rehan, if I am stepping on your toes, let me know and I'll remove this.
Have fun, PatrickL |

Black screen is normally the symptom of either low grade graphics card, or bad graphics card driver. Some graphics cards do not have enough dedicated video memory and use shared system memory... ShaderTFX uses the graphics card memory to work.
You can check the memory usage from:
Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Performance Information and Tools
and then click on "View and print details" under the scores table.
Browse through to see the Graphics section which shows something like this:
Graphics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Display adapter type Radeon Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series
Total available graphics memory 895 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 128 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 767 MB
Display adapter driver version 8.501.0.0
Primary monitor resolution 1280x1024
DirectX version DirectX 9.0 or better

| Sorry for bringing up an old post. I just tried to install this on Windows 7 64-bit computer with MM 6.0 and all I'm getting is a black screen when I click on the effects. I have ShaderTFX and it's working just fine except for these transitions. Can anyone help me fix this problem to get the transitions to work?? Thanks. |

StarMagic, the install should be to:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared
Select that folder in the install dialog. If you didn't, uninstall and reinstall.
Also, ShaderTFX must be in the 2 week trial period or registered for external images to work.
Good luck, PatrickL |

| I installed Shader TFX to the correct folder and it's already registered. However, the effect still doesn't work. I still just get a black image. Could it be my dedicated graphics memory causing the problem? I only have 32MB of dedicated graphics memory. |

If RehanFX Wipe transitions from ShaderTFX work properly, then the DPL PIP Transitions will be able to work properly.
If you aim the DPL PIP Transitions installer at the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\ folder, you should get:
The DPL PIPfx Background.fx file in the .../Shared/ folder
The DPL PIPfx Background.xml file in the .../Shared/AddOnTFX/ folder
and
The DPL PIPfx Background folder in the .../Shared/AddOnTFX/ folder
I don't know about the 32MB dedicated graphics memory. I presume you have more shared graphic memory and that should work??
Good luck, PatrickL

| That's the strange part. Rehan's Wipe Transitions work just fine but not the PIP transitions. The .fx file is in the Shared folde, the .xml and .dll file are in the Shared/AddOnTFX folder and the folder is also in the Shared/AddOnTFX/ folder. The only thing I have left to conclude is that I don't have enough memory for these particular transitions to work. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and still the transitions don't work. |

| For some strange reason, I had this problem too. I almost gave up on the ShaderTFX and all the neat transitions and effect that used it. I think it was due to the shared memory on my laptop. Updating all the drivers did not help. But when I upgraded to Win7 from Vista, the ShaderTFX worked. Not sure about how Win7 allocates the video memory differently, but it allowed the Shader to work on my machine. |
