Realistic TV overlay
Posted: 02 Sep 2007 12:21 AM
Hello Papa John, I have been searching the forums and I cant seem to find a TV overlay that I can use in my clips. I found the BFX super TV and found the cartoonish TV image where it will automatically size your video to fit into the TV image but I am hoping someone has created a realistic image of a TV screen. I know it will be a bit complicated because more than likely, I will have to download the image and put it into the program but I am learning.

I am doing a comedy video on Youtube and need it to appear as if someone is watching a television. I would gladly give props to anyone who has created this in my description for my video. Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards, Raven

welcome to the forum...

Maybe take a picture of your TV, carve the viewing area out to make it transparant, and make your own overlay with it.

What I meant by not sure how well that would turn out IS...because I would be doing it,lol...Still an Amatuer and paint can be difficult. The image wouldnt have any 3D either but I will try. I know there are 3D effects in the forum as well. ~raven

I know this has been done multiple times with various TV images from old TVs to cartoon TVs. Just for the fun of it, I created yet another version of the TV overlay (done as a title) that you can apply to your video. The nice thing is that it resizes your video to fit snuggly within the window, and it works both with standard 4:3 and widescreen 16:9 video.

Enjoy! By the way, this title works in XP as well as Vista.

Hey Blaine -

Nice overlay! I also have been trying to get a realistic overlay, and this one is going to be the best. I just ran across it on your website while I was looking at the custom icons for transitions and effects, and I found it, and had to download.

Hey Blaine, do you have a link at your page to get deadheads like myself instructions. I dont know how to get the png image into the overlay program you created. When I add the affect, it doesnt do anything. Its not picking up the image. Thanks Brian. ~Raven

Download:
Download from Blaine's website

Click on the link, save the installer then run it. The installer will put the files into your AddOnTFX folder... you don't need to do anything else. Unless I'm missing something in your question.

Hey, in the future, maybe someone could make more TV sets that fit the whole screen, some knobs, etc.,...I am quite happy with the one I was able to use but I bet more options would be a popular hope for many...Take care

Hello :)

I'm very new to movie making and have found your site and effects really useful. MOst recently I applied this TV overlay to my movie but it moved my other titles. Can you not have moe than one title running concurrently in MM?

welcome to the forum...

you can overlap title clips as you do video and audio... pull the one on the right up to and over the one at the left... you can overlap them except for the first frame... then it'll leap over it.

I'd guess yes, you would want the overlay there before the opening title text starts showing up...
