REQUEST: Contrast up/down

I'm sorry to bother again, but is there a way to create a Contrast Up and Contrast Down effect?

A video example would help, please. Or sample pictures.

This effect

except for Vista.

Nick tried plugging that verbatim into Vista and no luck.

As requested, on my website I've created a couple Custom Contrast Effects which you can apply to your video. There are a couple effects for increasing your contrast. Note: if you apply them several times, you can increase the contrast further.

The effects are:
Contrast Up, 20%
Contrast Up, 50%

There are also a couple of custom icons that get loaded by the install program.

Please post here if you have any problems with the installation. Note: you may have to *Save* the installer locally before you run it.

Hi Blaine, I tried your contrast effects. Work as advertised. Simple concept but effective. Whats the reason you didnt include contrast down ones?

I'd need a different formula. Values under 1.0 don't really do a contrast down but more of a desaturate. Do you have a formula for contrast down?

I think your formula is good enough. It would scale the color values around the mid grey. With values less than 1.0 any colors that is brighter than 0.5 would be scaled downwards towards 0.5 and any color value that is darker than 0.5 would be scaled up towards 0.5. An extreme value of contrast=0.0 would produce a midgrey color all over. So I think it works as it is.

Okay, I'll add some 'Contrast Down' effects to the XML. Thanks Rehan.

Okay, I've updated my installer to have a couple effects for decreasing contrast as well as increasing. New icons are included as well. If you already have the effects, the installer will uninstall the old ones before installing the new ones.

Thanks very much for adding the contast effect to your web site; I just now downloaded it and it is very helpful for some 23 year old VHS video shot in a room with a bright lamp which caused the camera to darken the rest of the room. Your effect helps a lot. I had looked at using VirtualDub for this (based on other posts on lightening dark video) but your effect does a very nice job right in WMM!

Hi Blaine,

Can I install the "Custom Contrast Effects For Movie Maker" on Windows 7 64 bit?

Thanks and regards,

Assuming you are using the 64-bit version of WMM 6.0... Use the 32-bit installer on my website, but then move all the files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker\Shared (including subfolders) to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared

Forgot to mention this when I created it, but there is a 64-bit installer too, now.
