| Very nice! And it has some advantages over PIP+ or PIP++ in that it can handle multiple streams all at once. Now if you could just get motion and rotation in there... |

Thanks Blaine...I'm sure that x,y mtion would be achieveable by some form of trickery , but rotation on all three axis I doubt.
Another feature of avisynth I'm going to start experimenting is using image sequencing for the mask images and png overlays - could be interesting !

Just added a few scripts that revisit the Brady Bunch effect AGAIN to add some movement to each of the video cells - very tricky indeed ! It does pave the way I think to using avisynth to create a faithful reproduction of the original Brady Bunch opening sequence although I'm sure it would be a nightmare to initially choreograph

Thanks Blaine
It looks very do-able looking at those links you provided. The biggest problem I've got at the moment though is finding a reputable source to download the theme tune from ..I'm thinking that if the effect is shared , then I'll need a common reference to advise downloading from and putting in the avisynth project folder. I guess that there may be different audio versions - split second timing will be essential.
I wonder how those fellas in the vid put the effect together?

Brady test using Avisynth
I still need to add alice, use some proper videos (not random nonsense), add a png for the opening title, and try and make it work with vids output in NTSC and pal - but it's getting there !
I'm basing it on that link that blaine posted. What is nice is that it assembles itself completely with just one script and a folder full of videos, images, and an audio wav file
I'll probably remove the above vid shortly replacing it with one without the soundtrack because of copyright implications, but I've included it here to get a real feel for the effect.
BTW...Does anybody know a legitimate source where the theme tune can be downloaded from ?

Al,
I tucked a link to your new page in with the other Avisynth stuff on my Setup MM2 in XP > Other Software page.
And here's a link to a file at the Internet Archives... the second part of the Happy Birthday piece is the Brady Bunch Theme... scroll down about half way through the list.

Re: Hitthebongos New Avisynth Page Posted: 08 Jun 2007 01:51 PM |
First, great job! It's really looking good!
I did notice some minor differences in the way a couple of the windows appear... not a big deal unless you are trying to get as close to the original as possible.
At the point where the first big window appears for each of the parents, it is actually a wipe from the middle out, not an expanding of the rectangle. Same thing when Mom and Dad Brady appear on the screen together. It is a wipe from the top down and then the bottom up. I would think that you could actually simplify the script at this point and just show the rectangles, but then add the appropriate wipe transition (from black) for each of the clips. It would mean that someone using the script would then have to do additional work on the source clips, so if you are trying to avoid that you may want to keep it the way you have it. |

Thanks for the links PJ
I' was really hoping to find a source to download the original theme tune from so I could recommend to users an audio source that would definitely (hopefully) synch up with the script. A commercial site would be OK. I need to brush up my googling skills because I'm not having much success...I might just resort to plan B and drop strong hints about the wonders of extracting audio from a movie clip and saving to wav - I could even mention Blaines link in the same breath
Ah - you noticed that part of the video CG it certainly caused me the most difficulty. The original video looks like the mum and dad shots are actually cropped in half as well. I've steered clear of the cropping as I can envisage it causing confusion when framing the source videos. I'd like to do the wipe, but if it proves to tricky I might just overlook it
What I'm hoping to achieve is making it as simple as possible with all the fades and other stuff done within Avisynth. Hopefully a user would just need to suppy 18 videos of a mininum specified length for the intro and family appearances and of course the audio source.

Here is the finished Avisynth project for doing a very close brady bunch simulation using source videos created and saved within Movie Maker.

amazing Al... you've been spending time on this one... well spent as it'll be a classic in Movie Maker history
I started by downloading your project package, opening the BB_Full.avs script in VirtualDub, and previewing it.... worked perfectly the first try.
And your website page about it is great also.... very inspirational work all around. |

Al - a real masterpiece!!! I may have to break down and try to learn how to use avisynth after seeing what you've achieved in this clip.
I can't wait to see what you do to top this!!! |

Thanks for the comments Neophyte...
I think it was Glow that first posted a solution to doing a 3x3 grid using Avisynth on this forum. The script was only a few lines long but it completely blew me away at how quickly and effeiciently the video was rendered. The "reverse" script is another cracking example. There's tons of cool stuff I can envisage being made possible.
For 99% of my tasks I wouldn't be without Movie Maker but for the other 1% Avisynth does provide some of the answers

good time for me to plug my book about "Learning VirtualDub"... which includes VDubMod and Avisynth....
Chapter 9 is about 'Frameserving' with Avisynth... it's only 9 pages long. Most of your learning is by trying things like Al did. |

Bravo Al!
I feel like a planted a couple of seeds and thanks to you they've well and truly blossomed.

Although the audiolising with the supplied music.mp3 is somewhat underwhelming.
Since we started playing with Brady-Bunch about 3 years ago, it's been a feature of the
birthday party videos I take of my kids where I get the kids to blow their party whistles/blowers
with each kid in a different box.
I probably haven't been getting as many Wow, how did you do that? comments in recent
times but my twins are having their 5th birthday party this weekend and armed with your scripts
I reckon I'm a chance this year.

Thanks glow - There's been a few useful resources / influences in cobbling the script together , but your original implementation was most definitely the hook.
Unfortunately the breathtaking majesty of my beautiful musical masterpiece isn't to everyones liking. If you give it time however it'll grow on you ! .......OK OK - It's terrible - lets never mention it again...
