using heartbeat in right timing
Posted: 24 Apr 2007 05:30 AM
I installed the PIP (gonna buy it...I like it) from rehan(?)'s site, and I like the effects. I used the heartbeat effect in one thing, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to make it beat faster or slower? Is there a way to do this without saving the clip and re-loading, then changing the speed? An easier/quicker way?

Thanks guys for all advice so far.

Can you post that effect? It's sound a little like something I might have done,
but either way, it would help to see the code.

It's probably based on the length of the clip. I'm sure it is a fixed number of beats (say 3). So if you put it on a 3 second clip, it will be 1 per second. If you put it on 1 minute clip, each will be 20 seconds apart.

The answer is to either modify the XML to put in more "beats", or to just apply it to shorter clips. If you had a 1 minute clip, split that in to 20 smaller clips and you have a faster beat on each one.

the only thing I see on Rehan's site is the Bass effect, which
could be considered a heartbeat effect. Here is a faster version of that.

Re: using heartbeat in right timing

Hi again!

It just shows up in PIP+ effects, it is in the .dll file I think as it is not listed in my addontfx file. I don't know how to get the xml code out of the dll, if you tell me how I'll do so and post it...

it does do the bass thing, in a rhythm. I have tried changing the length of the clip but it seems to always go at the same speed, so I ended up having to save as movie and then import it again. It's kind of hard to do, because I can't tell how fast to make it and where to put it unless the music is playing, in the preview,....

that's as far as I have gotten, still any other help is appreciated!

I downloaded the current version that Rehan has on his site, and
I see what you are referring to. He has a heartbeat effect that is
somewhat similar to the bass effect that I posted above.
All his XML code is in the PIPPLUS file(in addontfx folder) and if you edit
that file, just search for heartbeat to see the code. It looks like he has
5 beats in that effect, so you could try to add more by duplicating
the statements and adjusting the times properly, or you can do as
CG suggested and break up your clips into segments. If you add the
effect to each segment, that will give you 5 beats per segment instead
of 5 beats for the entire clip. If you try to edit the effect in the XML,
you run the risk of breaking something, so the 2nd method would be
the easiest. Or you can try adding my effect, which is similar, and would
give you more beats over the length of the clip.

Your method worked perfectly. I use yours and adjust the clip for fast beat, then use his and adjust for slower beat.

it's really a cool effect, in small doses.

Thanks so much for helping me out!
