PIP Overlay BBC Weather Graphics...HELP
Posted: 09 Mar 2007 03:59 PM
Hi everyone,

Sorry to be a pain but wouold it be posible for someone to edit a PIP effect to create this:

http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/untitled_copy2.jpg

What i mean by this is that the weather presenter would be on the screen and the graphi would be overlayed. I have the picture already made, and to size. Was woundering if someone could edit one of Rehan's PIP effect to make it look like the picture.

Thank you ever so much if anyone can help.

Me and a few other guys are working at a disabled school and as part of their weather project we have promised they will all make a forecast in their wheelchairs, but we need the PIP effect, so that we can graphic but also see them. They are children aged 11 -12 at Claremont School, (just some info).

Thank you.

Regards,

Ben

If you have the edited image with the overlay, it would really speed up things. Can you post it somewhere like imageshack.us and post the link here?

What he means is to have an overlay of the guy talking, or moving.

What i want is to have a video of the forecaster (disabled child) and anext to him that small silver box overlayed.

So the silver box will be a an image file, while the preseenter will be avideo.

The box (picture) will overlay like my attached picture.

Would it include the BBC line and the day below? And you always want that single image shown with 13 and 11?

Hi,

Really all i want is one image being overlayed over the weather presenter. Just the bit that looks like this.

http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/picture2_copy1.jpg

I have replaced all the details with the word Carfiff, but just imagen that there is lots of info just like the previous picture.

This image is just a quick mock, for the real thing i will have all my own information on the slide.

Thank you ever so much.

I'm still not getting your requirements. Is it a single non-changing overlay? Or are you looking for it to be different at different times...

Copy/paste the following code into Notepad. Save it in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX as scrolluppause.xml. (If you don't have the AddOnTFX folder, add it)

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">

Thank ayimilove but thats not right. Sorry... :-(

I have hunted down some more pictures to illistrate the point. Bisicly its the opposite to what .......siad. The presenter is moving while the silver grey box is overlayed. Here this picture shows the position of the box and the size that the PIP needs to be made to fit.

http://www.tvnewsroom.co.uk/images/bbcnews/scotland/04/weathergraphics/weather07.jpg

The second picture shows it in use. The presenter moves around (but if she goes to far to her left then she will fall under the box) like in a normal weather forecast, and the silver/grey box appears as a PIP effect.

http://www.tvnewsroom.co.uk/images/helenwilletts/18-helenwilletts01.JPG

I have a picture already made to size but it is not with me so if you could follow the sizes and position on the first for the PIP I would be very greatful.

Hope you understand.

You keep mentioning overlaying a single picture, but I have seen about 3 different examples with different words...

Have you tried the standard PIP+ effect that puts the second window in the upper right? If it is a little high or too far right, you would just need to change those parameters slightly.

Hi,

Yes, i'm not interrested in the text. All I need is the PIP parameters edited to make the PIP 'hole' be in the same place and sixe of this image

http://www.tvnewsroom.co.uk/images/heatherreid/weather%20(2).jpg

I will make the image to go in the 'hole' later.

That's a 16:9 aspect ratio video... so I hope your project is set to 16:9 aspect ratio to match.

I calculate the offset of the rectangle to be over 39%, down 12% with a width of 45% and a height of 66%.

That would be 0.39, 0.12, 0.45, 0.66 for the rectangle parameters. The time value at the beginning would be 0.

If that was unclear, here is the actual XML code you would use... you need PIP+ obviously.

<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Transitions>
<TransitionDLL guid="{4EF98DF5-794F-4fd3-8E77-559F82C8D10C}">
<Transition name="PIP+ Weather Inset" iconid="27">
<Param name="RectA" value="0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 1.0" />
<Param name="RectB" value="0.0, 0.39, 0.12, 0.45, 0.66" />
</Transition>
</TransitionDLL>
</Transitions>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Basically I took the picture, resized it to 100 x 100 pixels. Then I just figured the top/left pixel and the size of the rectangle. It was easy from there.

Most any image editor should have a resize function. I'm sure free programs like GIMP and Paint.net do. I used PaintShop Pro.

As for Compositing (Comp A add B), you could use that if you make an image on a black background... however it would add the pixels, as the name implies. This is great for explosions, laser blasts, fireworks, etc. where you don't mind if the bright spots get brighter because the pixel values *add* together.

Another choice would be one of the 'Chroma' transitions, if you made the background a solid color. I think I might use that, since you could even add the rounded corners, etc. that seem to be in the overlaid graphic.

Copy/paste the XML code above into Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad).

Save the file in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX as weatherpip.xml

Restart WMM and use it as a transition between the live video and the picture clip. Drag the two so they overlap as much as possible.

Yes, just download it from www.rehanfx.org > PIP Plus > Main plug-in. Because the PIP window is not moving, this transition will continue to work even after the trial period has expired.
